This was a request on Tumblr

After losing a kid at work you knew only one person could make you feel better. The only thing about going to see him was that you hadn’t met his colleges even though you’ve known each other since high school. But with your long hours being a doctor and his 24 hour shifts it was hard. You decided to phone him and lucky he answered

“Hey Y/N/N what’s going on?” Your eyes filled with tears but you tried to keep them in

“Hey erm I lost that kid today and I know your on shift and I haven’t been to-” He cut you off before you could finish

“Look Y/N/N you can come over it’s not like you don’t know where it is and I know how you can get when you lose a kid” You sighed slightly

“Thank you so much”

“Don’t worry about it I’ll see you when you get here I’ll wait outside for you” He hung up and you drove over to firehouse 51. Trying your best not to cry because if you cry then your eyesight becomes blurry then you have a chance of crashing the car.

Once you got to the firehouse you saw Otis standing outside against the wall waiting for you. You were still in your scrubs because you just wanted to get out of the hospital. You climbed out the car, grabbing your handbag on the way out. Otis met you halfway and pulled you into a hug as tears welled your eyes again.

“Y/N you did everything you could to save that kid today” Your cries were muffled by his uniform

“It wasn’t enough though” He kissed your hair that was in a bun before pulling back at arms length. He wiped your tears away with his thumb.

“Y/N We have a saying as firefighters, the jobs about running into places where people are running out. No matter how hard we are trying, not everyone makes it. It’s like that for doctors as well, you can try and save everyone but not everyone makes it so stop blaming yourself”

“I just keep seeing his face and repeating when he coded as well as seeing his parents reactions”

“Y/N Y/M/N Y/L/N stop blaming yourself it isn’t gonna do yourself any good and the more you blame yourself the more you hide in my bed” You let out a small laugh.

“Otis don’t keep the poor girl standing outside” One guy shouted as you wiped your tears

“Coming captain” Otis shouted back wrapping an arm around your shoulders, placing a kiss to your head “Do you want to meet them all?” You shrugged

“It won’t hurt anyone and it’ll take my mind off it” You smiled weakly. You both walked up into the firehouse after Otis convincing you that they were all harmless and would just start placing bets. You reached a room that was probably their breakroom. Everyone turned to look at you and Otis. Otis introduced you to everyone and pushed you down onto a seat at a long table.

“So how long have you two been dating?” The girl you recently discovered as Stella Kidd asked

“Oh we aren’t dating we met in high school lets just say we were both friendless and the nerds of our class” You explained

“I was not a nerd” Otis defended himself and you just laughed at him

“Explain how we were the only two that didn’t become a stripper or private trainer out of our class?”

“Ok maybe we were nerds” You and the firehouse got on really well. You stayed and chatted until they got a call when you finally decided to go home.
