{AUTHOR'S NOTE: Hello, and welcome to my new fanfiction! I hope you will enjoy it -- the plan is rather loose so far as far as the plot goes, but I think it'll come out well, and I certainly like the first chapter! Remember to comment what you think about it and give me feedback... I accept criticism! Enjoy!}
(P.P.S, if any characters I mention were eliminated before the announcement of TPOT, sorry! I am a bit fuzzy with memory so I hope you do not mind.)
(Tennis Ball)
"So WHAT are we going to do now?!"
Those words, coming from a shrieking Book, had finally settled the bickering that had been going on for a good half an hour now. Tennis Ball watched, not wanting to interrupt - though he was quite annoyed - and stood quietly as the panicked objects around him paced and shifted in their spots. "I agree," Eraser spoke up from within the crowd, his voice even more gruff than usual, "you've all been screaming endlessly, but nobody has actually DONE anything," he added in a brisk tone.
Something awful had just happened, and it seemed that as everybody stood there, watching each other's expressions, they finally could breathe and truly re-evaluate what had happened, just earlier that day...
"You can't just LEAVE us, Two!" Golf Ball had shouted, her voice laced with a sort of desperation that had hardly shown before. That worry seemed to kickstart everybody else's panic, and suddenly the whole crowd of objects was shouting; protesting for their host to stay; pleading for Two not to leave them behind. "I advise you all to run," Two had spoken, almost too softly for the situation, before adding "please." That was when the bickering had begun. That was when the eyes had started to flutter around in flurry, digging their gazes into others in search of a possible answer - a clue that could help them figure out what was going on. Tennis Ball had been the owner of one of those wandering eyes, before they landed on Golf Ball and met hers. They had the same sort of look, the same sort of devastated wonder flickering inside of them. Mere moments after, it had all come crashing down in a flood of confusion, sadness and blame in the form of a running crowd.
"Come on, GB," Tennis Ball had spoken sternly through the screaming crowd to Golf Ball, who was uncharacteristically in a state of shock, "you heard him... we should run."
It seemed that everybody in the group had lost their voices. "We... are going to need to communicate, people." Book said, her eyes narrowing to slits. "Nobody is going to get anywhere if we can't do that. So, any ideas?" she asked, crossing her arms. "We can-" Yellow Face started, but his words were cut off by Book, who spoke once again, "Shut it. Perhaps I worded myself incorrectly... I meant to say: Any ideas from any COMPETENT people?"
"Let him speak, Book! You're stressed, clearly, but... he might just have an idea that could help us!" Pin said, wading through the crowd as her voice strained to be loud enough to be heard by everybody. "She does have a point, Book," Coiny backed Pin up as he also made his way through the jumble of people. When Book turned to them, her arms still crossed and her expression sour, Tennis Ball saw Coiny slip his hand into Pin's and give it a comforting squeeze. "Fine," the blue-and-green book spoke, her nonchalant voice thick and out-of-place in the heavy atmosphere of the moment. After a moment, she sighed, however, and spoke again, "I'm sorry... I don't know what got into me. Tell us, Yellow Face. What's your idea--?!"
This time it was Book who was cut off when a panting Firey came running into her, almost setting her ablaze before an even more tired Leafy knocked her over completely, putting out the fire. "Hah... hah... you guys.. won't believe..." Firey started, kneeling over as he spoke. Flower, who had run up with the rest of the BFB contestants, continued his words. "Four and X... destroyed... recovery centers.. told us.. to.. hah.. hah..." she panted, completely out of breath. "They told you to run, didn't they? Before leaving." Golf Ball's voice, strong and loud like always but clearly worried, loomed over the others. "That's right-- How did you know, Ms. Dimples?" Lollipop asked, cocking her eyebrow and looking down at Golf Ball. "Don't call me that, Lollipop," Golf Ball hissed, looking down at the ground. "Did Two betray you guys? Aww, what a horrible surprise! I never would've-"
"Leave it be, Lollipop," Tennis Ball interjected, to Golf Ball's visible glee (the approval was displayed on her face through a soft but genuine smile.) "If our theory is correct," Golf Ball piped up, seemingly subconsciously attempting to look taller by lifting herself slightly on her tip-toes, "Four and X did to you guys what Two did to us, yes? Told you to run and then left," she finished. Tennis Ball glanced at Golf Ball for a second, unable to contain his smile even in the moment, before quickling clearing his throat and adding to her words, "and you said they destroyed the recovery centers too..? That means that..."
"Whoever dies, is DEAD. GONE. *GCCHHT,*" Firey made a graphic noise as he ran his finger along his body in a swift movement, pretending it was a knife. "That's where... Bubble is." Leafy murmured quietly, rubbing her arm. Everybody went silent, unable to speak. Tennis Ball felt like sighing - he had heard many others fade around him as he listened - but he kept quiet, knowing that Golf Ball was going to say something then. She'd start it with a "I know what to do!" or "Well, luckily, you have ME to tell you pitiful creatures where to go!" and everybody'd call her bossy but appreciate her smarts anywise.
...
Tennis Ball's heart seemed to drop slightly when Golf Ball, next to him, stayed eerily quiet. "Hey, GB..?" he asked, stepping a bit closer to her. She had seemed so confident just moments prior; nothing else but this had put her in such a state before, so what was wrong? "O-Oh, yes, TB?" she replied hastily, although she didn't look him in the eyes. "Are you okay? You're acting..."
"I'm acting what?"
"I-- GB, I'm just wondering if you're all right. You are, aren't you?" Tennis Ball whispered, sitting down to be more level with her. "Yes. Of course. In fact, my level of 'all right,' in percent, is steadily going up," she spoke diligently, but still, she did not meet his eyes. Tennis Ball knew something was very wrong, and he could not help but persist in his quest of finding out how to help:
"Do you want to talk about this someplace... other than here?" he purred quietly, and finally, Golf Ball glanced into his eyes. "I'd.. like that." she spoke. "Okay! Let's, um, get away from this crowd..?" Tennis Ball proposed, finding that a strange tone crept into his words too. It had been happening recently around Golf Ball, and for a reason he couldn't really understand. It wasn't her fault by any means - in fact, Tennis Ball felt like the weird one all the time - but his words never felt 'right' around her; he was always overthinking what he said, how he said it, and what she may interpret his words as. Of course, Golf Ball could be a bit judgemental at times but it wasn't because of that. It was...
Well, he couldn't pinpoint it, but he knew that whatever it was, it didn't matter right now. As Golf Ball nodded, he cleared his throat and smiled softly. "Come on! They'll still be able to see us, but hopefully it'll give you a bit of room to breathe. Nobody can work in such a messy environment."
"You're right, TB! Thank you for pushing me forward! We'll be able to think of what to do in no time!" she grinned, and together they started to walk away from the now chattering crowd of objects that were just as confused as they were, but who were going to be in that state much longer than the duo.
