Failed experiments [Luchino x Antonio]

Luchino was sitting in his lab, staring at what were once test subjects. He was trying to find a way to break Yidrah's curse and become human again. He stared at the poor rats he had to put through this shit just to find a cure for himself.

Test subject number one was... dead. Test subject number two was also dead. Both were still 100% rats. Test subject number three seemed to change a little bit- growing tiny human arm, but... it still died. And test subject number four was... well... Let's just say that it looked more like the chewed gum you'd find under the tables at public places. Yes, this one was also dead.

Luchino's hands were shaking as he tried to fight the tears in his eyes. He buried his face in his hands and sighed in defeat. He was tired, sad... and scared. Oh, he was so scared. What if the only way out of this reptilian form was death itself? And none of these rats had a quick death, no. It was painful for him to watch, and even more painful for the rats themselves.  With each match he won, another ingredient for this "cure" was revealed to him by a letter, but... no matter how many matches he won, how many ingredients were revealed to him... nothing seemed to work. As a matter of fact, things only got worse and worse... He was considering giving up On everything.

That is when he felt someone wrapping him in a blanket. He didn't need to lift his head up to know that it was Antonio, who had just returned from a match. He gave Luchino a soft smile as a group of his hair crawled to gently wrap itself around Luchino's hand. "You look tired, love." The violinist said. "Ya think?" Luchino sarcastically asked. His voice cracked a little, making Antonio even more worried. He grabbed a chair from nearby and sat beside the biologist, taking a look at the remains of the test subjects, then turning to look at Luchino. He used his hand to scratch behind Luchino's ear, causing his tail to wag a little. It would always make Luchino feel a bit better, and he could see the reptilian smiling for a split second.

"Another failed experiment, dear?" Antonio asked. He never fully understood why Luchino is overworking himself. Sure, he knew about the curse thing. Luchino told him about it when they shared their reasons to be in this game, but... this search for a cure depressed the biologist, and they both knew that. He moved his hand to Luchino's cheek, caressing it and causing the reptilian to look at him. He saw the fear in his beloved's eyes, making his heart hurt a little.

"I'm... I'm scared, Antonio." Luchino said. "What if death is my only escape from this mess?"

"What makes you say that?" Antonio asked, feeling a little bit panicked from that sentence.

"The bunch of dead mutated rats here, in case you haven't noticed." Luchino sighed. "And the ones from former experiments that are currently rotting in the trash."

Oh, right.

But still, Antonio could not bear the thought of losing his lover. Even if it was meant for the curse to break, he couldn't bear the thought of Luchino leaving him like that.

"Death is never the answer, Lulu." Antonio said, trying to hide the sadness in his voice. "Look, we both know it takes time to find a solution to that thing, and we both know that I'll be by your side throughout that process-"

"But what if there's no solution, Ant?" Luchino asked, almost yelling. "What are we gonna do then?"

Antonio had no idea. He knew how passionate Luchino is about this whole "cure" subject.

Instead he just gave him a soft smile.

"Then we'll make it have a solution, dear." he said, giving him a small peck on the cheek.

Luchino looked at him. He was speechless.

"Look, I'm not saying that you being a reptilian is a bad thing. There are a few... well... pros~" Antonio said with a wink. It wasn't the best time to make a sex joke, but come on ya'll, he's not wrong. "But if it'll make you happy to be human again, then it'll make me happy too."

He held Luchino's hand.

"I don't care if you're a hybrid or a human. Hell, you could be a robot for all I care about." Antonio said. "I love you. And the only thing I care about is that you're happy."

Luchino smiled a little. He pulled the man onto his lap and kissed him softly.

"I love you too, Antonio." Luchino said as they pulled out. "I'm glad to have you in my life."

"I'm glad too." Antonio said as he got up. "Now lets go get some rest now, shall we?"
