"I've never thought I'd have to run for my life from a child." Freddy Reily said as he panted.
"Yeah." Kreacher Pierson sighed as he leaned against the stone fence.
The two of them managed to escape the ruins of the factory after Leo and Robbie (Who are also known as "Hell Ember" and "Axe Boy") managed to kill the other two survivors with rocket chairs.
"I knew this kid." Kreacher said as he looked down at the grass.
"What, you stole his money?" Freddy joked.
"He was in my orphanage." Kreacher said. "He and his sister. I remember them both."
"Oh." Freddy said as he moved next to him, leaning against the fence as well.
"Robbie was a good kid. Quiet, but good. He didn't have many friends except for his sister, so he spent most of the time either with her or in the garden." Kreacher said.
"What was his sister's name?" Freddy asked.
"Dolores." Kreacher answered. "She was loud, an extrovert. She was basically the popular girl in every high-school, minus the mean part."
"Well, if Axe boy was once a good kid, why the fuck is he trying to murder us?" The lawyer asked.
"Well... have you ever wondered WHY I became I thief?" Kreacher asked and looked into Freddy's eyes.
"You lost the orphanage, didn't you?" Freddy said in a serious yet soft voice. "The church took it, right?"
"Huh, so you DO know what happened." Kreacher said. He sighed and looked back down. "From what I heard the nuns neglected him. Some of them even abused him verbally and physically."
"Nuns, man," Freddy said. "Sometimes they sin too."
"Yeah." Kreacher said. "So from what I heard, he snapped, y'know? Grabbed an axe, chopped everyone, burned the place... the whole pack. Then there's the thing about his head."
"Yeah, how did he lose it?" the lawyer asked.
"I heard so many versions of this part of the story." Kreacher said. "Some said he somehow mannaged to behead himself afterward. Some say he was executed. Some say a survivor did it."
"He became the boogeyman of your town." Freddy said with a smirk.
"Yup." Kreacher said. "And I became a thief, a liar, a bad guy..."
"Well, that depends on what you do with the money." Freddy said.
"I donate it to orphanages and schools." Kreacher said.
The two of them remained silent for a few seconds.
"You're a good guy, Kreacher." The lawyer said, looking at the floor. "You don't deserve to be in this situation. Not like me."
The thief looked at him with a worried face.
"Leo... I... fuck..." The lawyer said. "Man, I was a shitty friend."
"You told me that you know Hell Ember from somewhere." Kreacher said.
"We were friends since middle school. He would always defend me, always help me out with stuff." Freddy said. "When we got older, I was the best man in his wedding."
"So what happened?" Kreacher asked him.
"Well, I told him to open the textile factory." Freddy said, looking back at the ruins of the factory. "His wife, Martha, and I rode on his success. We used him for money, and... well..."
"What?" Kreacher asked.
"She and I... well..." Freddy said. "I might have stolen his wife."
"WHAT?!" The thief screamed.
"She divorced me too a little later, don't worry." Freddy said.
"So what happened?" Kreacher asked.
"One day I got a phone call from one of our old friends." Freddy said. "Leo put his daughter in an orphanage, then burned the factory and himself."
"So the day Emma came to my orphanage..." Kreacher realized. "Holy shit..."
"That's also one of the reasons she hates my guts." Freddy said.
The lawyer sighed.
"I should've been the one to be on that rocket chair back there." He said, his eyes began to fill up with tears. "You all should've escaped this place and let me die. I fucking deserve it."
"Freddy..." Kreacher said.
"I'm a horrible person, Kreacher!" Freddy sobbed. "I didn't even save anybody."
"You saved me." Kreacher said. "When Leo was about to catch me, who distracted him to let me escape his sight? You. When Axe boy tied me to the rocket chair, who untied me? You."
Kreacher gently took Freddy's hand in his, looking at the wounds the lawyer got from the thorns.
"I basically owe you my fucking life right now, Reily." Kreacher said and looked into the lawyer's eyes. "Yes. You were selfish back then. But you've changed, Freddy. You are aware of your flaws and you try to change them."
He gently kissed the lawyer's hand. Freddy's cheeks turned red.
"Listen, I don't really believe in the definitions of good and bad." Kreacher said. "For me it's more of a spectrum. People can move across it and change their location on it. But in my eyes, Freddy, you're a good guy. At least you're trying to be one. You also don't deserve to be here."
At that moment Freddy broke down. He began to cry and buried his face in Kreacher's chest. The thief gently removed the glasses from the lawyer's face so nothing bad will happen to them, gently wrapped his hands around his body and placed soft kisses on his head.
"I don't deserve you." Freddy sobbed.
"Don't you even dare to think about it." Kreacher said softly, playing a bit with the lawyer's hair.
Kreacher hoped that one day he'd be able to leave this carnival and start a new life. But he couldn't see himself in this new life without Freddy by his side.
