SONG LI knew better than anyone that being born during a war was no picnic. Her whole life, she had been stuck in a village in a kingdom that was the Fire Nation's main target. With the looming threat of death drawing closer with every village they conquered, it was hard to have a normal childhood.
But then, the cruel hands of fate, and the Fire Nation, stole her father away from her, and it was like everything good in her life had shattered to pieces. Her mother fell ill from despair and stress, and with nobody to support the family, she had to leave school and become the provider for the family, at barely 12 years old. The village hospital wasn't an ideal place for a child to work, but they needed help, and she needed money.
Gradually, her mother got better, and her life became easier. But carrying around burdens of the past wasn't good for her. For years, she remained closed off, until a strange boy and his uncle, claiming to be travellers, somehow found their way to her. Song Li let him into her life and heart, but he was a travelling boy. He left her, and with him, went her heart.
But in a world where everything could change in a heartbeat, they were a constant in each other's lives. Fate sometimes lacked the ability to make up its mind, but the one thing it seemed to be sure of, was that Song Li and Zuko were destined to be together.

To her, he was just like mint. He was tranquil, refreshing, intriguing. He was everything that had been missing from her life that she wasn't prepared to let go. In her mind, he had no flaws; he was eternal.
To him, she was just like chamomile. She was simple, sweet, soothing. She was the one who kept him grounded, and he couldn't seem to let her go. She invaded his mind and was in the air that he breathed; she was ubiquitous.

Author's Note: Zuko be breaking hearts left and right in ATLA like damn. I just thought I'd write about one of the girls who got their heart broken by him and give her a happy ending. Also I don't really like the way Song looks in the show. She just doesn't have main character potential, I guess. So you can imagine her as she is or you can imagine her as Song Yuqi, the face claim I have chosen. Also to those who read my last book, I use poika's thing again and made this!

DISCLAIMER: I do not own Song, her mother, or any of the characters in this book. Song Li is merely a slightly modified version of Song with a more developed backstory and storyline/role in the plot. Song still belongs to the original writers of ATLA.
