My face twitches as I can feel my body awakening from the deep slumber I was entrapped in. My nose crinkles, my brows furrow and my eyes flicker open, and back to closed. The cold hair hits against my skin and the scent of fabric freshener hits my nose, filling my nostrils and filling my senses. It was so strong, so unbelievably strong. If it wasn't for the rocking about in my head then maybe I would pay attention to it, but it didn't matter. Not right now. What mattered, was what I opened my eyes to.
My head hung low, so my eyes came to see my legs strapped to a chair by my thighs, and hand cuffs holding both of my wrists as they laid in my lap. Lifting my head my eyes scanned the table in front of me, and at least seven uno cards laid facing down on the table. Said table was circular and brown, almost unreal looking, and then the extra scent of alcohol hit my nose. That was when I lifted my head and my eyes landed on the bear.
The stuffed animal looked so familiar, dark eyes staring back into mine and a happy jolly smile on its face. It was white and fluffy, clean and perfect. It was probably where the freshner was coming from. There was a cup sitting to it's right, and a kitchen knife to its left. The bear itself had its own seven cards laying out before it. The room behind it was dark, as well as everything else besides the window behind me, daylight. Then why was this so ominous?
"..Very funny." I said, grumbling as I peered around the room I was in. "In what way is this gonna freak me out? It's a stuffed bear."
I look down and I pull at the ties around my thighs, but they won't budge. I can't feel my legs, they sit so tight around my bones that I've lost circulation. Hell, if I try to stand up now there'd probably be a chance I wouldn't be able to get up right away. Dandy.
"Get me the hell out of this stupid game." I say, sounding annoyed.
The night before I was spending a might with a few friends of mine, having fun and making jokes. I don't remember passing out, and I don't remember drinking. But that's where the aching in my mind had to be from, right? If it wasn't that then it woild be the putrid and strong smell of fabric cleaner that was radiating off of the bear.
"You enjoying yourself?"
I pauses for a moment a sense of confusion and sudden shock at the sound. The voice was so childish and cutesy, yet so soft and alluring. I knew that voice, it was Snuggles. I lift my head to look at the bear, it hadn't moved. I had to be imagining it, or my bastard friends were playing a trick on me. But then it came to shock me.
"You look like you're in quite the pickle." Snuggles' head cocked and rocked about on his shoulders as he spoke, just like he would on TV, and hjs mouth moved to sync with his words. He then giggles, leaning forward about an inch and then rocking back.
My eyes widen in shock, then I bed forward, looking under the table. There was no one behind him, no one puppeteering. I lift my head, and Snuggles tilted his head, which was an odd sight seeing as he didn't have a neck to do it.
"Are you looking for something?"
"..The hell?" I furrow my brows in confusion, and his bottom jaw pressed against his nuzzle in an expression I can only assume is disgust.
"That's not a pretty word." He said.
"Hell? No, no it's not." I lean back in my chair, almost amused by this trick.
Then, his arms start moving and I am certainly not amused anymore. Just anlther surprise in the big bounty of surprises I've woken up to.
His knubs land on the cars before him, and he giggles cutely, a sound I know I'm gonna get annoyed of. "..I wanna play a game." He says.
"What is this? Saw??" I scoff. "Let me go, guys. This is bullshit."
"You need to wash your mouth out." Although Snuggles sounds upset, he can't get past how soft and cuddly his voice sounds. "Nobody's here, just you and me."
I roll my eyes and I look over my shoulder at the window. I then spot the figure sitting up against the wall next to the glass, the sun illuminating the outline of their legs.
"I see you, asswipe." I yell out, and I glance at Snuggles for a moment who seems to sit there, frozen in place before turning back. "Quit it."
The person behind me didn't move, and that was when I look back to see a flash light skid across the table in my direction. I eye the bear before raising my hands and grabbing it, then turning in the direction of my friend. It takes me a moment before I flip the switch, and my heart jumps into my throat.. That's not real, it can't be real. It's gotta be some sort of makeup, or some fake thing, it's not.. It looks so real.
My friend laid up agaimst the wall with their throat slashef and blood soaking their clothes. Their face mutilated to the point I can't see their features, but I can tell it's an actual body. It wasn't full of watermelons and stuffing, it was a real person. A being that I actually knew.
"Listen."
I turn back to the bear, still skeptical as he brought a cigarette to his own mouth. I squint my eyes as I watch it ligjt the other end with a lighter, then inhale, the oxygen flow burning up the other end and exposing ashes tbat would burn so bad against your skin if it were to touch you. Then he stopped, and amazingly enough smoke escapes his furry fabric mouth, as if it had lungs.
"..I wanna play a card game with you." Snuggles' voice sounded the same, but somehow more intimidating. "Your friends lost the game, and I thought maybe you were better then they would be."
I press my lips together and my rais my eye brows. "Where are my other two?" I ask, and Snuggles leans his head back.
I get the hint, and I shine my torch over. The sight almost makes me want to vomit.
One had been dragged cross the ground, blood following the trail they made and their head was bashed on with the knife block. The other, he was standing just on the other end of the doorway, but they weren't actually standing. They were hung by their own intestines, feet an inch away from touching the ground and their eyes staring right down at my face. Much closer than the other two, I could see all the details, features. This wasn't a joke, they were dead, and this fucking bear wanted to play a game of Uno. I dropped my flashlight and it tumbles beneath me. I look down, and at my feet I can see the carprt below me is stained with red, and there were Snuggles wipes all around me, blocking out the scent of blood and the scent of obvious death.
I look at Snuggles, and he has his hands on his deck.
"I'm up to my ears in anticipation." He giggles giddily, and he flips his cards over.
The shitty ball of cottom was so confident in himself he lets me see them, and I see why. Two plus fours were sitting before him and it almost seemed like the game was in his hands, or paws I should say. I flip mine over and I look at my own. It's not bad, but his is way better.
"..I wanna reshuffle the deck." I say, lifting my eyes and looking at the bear, taking this way more seriously than I should.
I mean, no way this was happening, right? I had to be at least dreaming this fucked up thing up.
"Okie dokie." He said in a cheery tone.
I reach across the table, and now I am shuffling uno cards. I glance at the doorway for a moment and look down, trying not to think of all the history I had with these people. This was an obvious joke, it had to be. No way in hell my friends got murdered by a damn bear. I set the deck down and look at Snuggles.
"Alright, let's... Play.."
I stare at Snuggles, he was frozen before me, but that wasn't what got me to slow down. My dead friend had fell without a sound and somehow managed to topple forward enough that they landed right behind Snuggles, their undead eyes peaking through the bars of said chair. Snuggles had his mouth closed, and he put his paws to his face, giggling to himself as if he had an inside joke. Then he dropped his paws, his fsce covered in deep red as if he's been drinking koolaid. Or blood.
Then his mouth opens, and only then do I realize my friend's teeth were missing, and now there was a whole couple rows in Snuggles' mouth, a torn up grin sprawled across his face.
"You play first."
I ran out of creativity.
Here's an ad for Snuggles.
