~~ Chapter Twenty-One ~~

Start from the beginning

"But I'm not... I don't love Colby."

Fate's eyebrows rose suspiciously but she said nothing as she let go of my hand and stood up from the couch. "You don't think you do. Take it from a goddess: you just need to release your feelings. The time will come. I can only hope that's before my husband finally snaps on Colby."

Fate shook her head to rid of the thoughts flowing through her mind and motioned toward everyone else, who had gathered around the throne. They all seemed to be having some sort of conversation that I couldn't hear from so far away.

The goddess and I walked from the living room to join them, but she didn't walk the whole way. She paused in the middle of the room while I snuck in-between Tara and Xepher.

"I should take my leave before God gets... worried. You must all be careful now; he's on his last legs with hell and he could snap at any moment."

"I'll flash you to the gate," Elton offered, stepping out of the group.

"Goodbye, everyone." Fate waved a hand as Elton gently grabbed her arm and flashed the two of them out of the room.

It felt like a weight had lifted off of my shoulders. She was gone, which meant I could finally breathe again. All of her talk about love and Colby had struck a chord with me in a way I couldn't accurately describe. A part of me liked the future she said I would have, but another part of me just couldn't accept it.

"What did she want to talk to you about?" Reggie asked excitedly, grinning like a child as he gently nudged my arm.

My eyes automatically flicked to Colby before I dragged them away in the opposite direction. "That doesn't concern you. It was confidential."

"Hm, not good enough. I want to know, too," Jake replied. He purposely pulled puppy eyes and pushed out his bottom lip making me roll my eyes and shake my head.

"Shut up, dork. There are more important issues."

"Like what?" he challenged, copying my pose with my arms crossed over my chest and my body weight all on one foot.

"The rogues."

"They're all dead."

"Who says they all attacked?"

He went silent.

"Exactly. There could be more waiting at their hideout, wherever it is. They won't be happy that a chunk of them died and they might try to retaliate."

"This is why, Mike," Colby said out of nowhere almost glaring at his friend, who just huffed and looked away.

I frowned but nobody explained. It felt like the room was suddenly ten times more awkward, and I just couldn't stand being in it.

"Whatever the fuck that's about," I grumbled. "I'll be in my room anyway if you... need anything." I turned and started to rush up the stairs. Whatever they had talked about before had somehow tied into what I'd said, though that still really didn't help much.

Jake's POV
As soon as the goddess had gotten to the living room with Ari, we moved up into sort of a circle around the throne. So much had to be talked about, and none of it concerned kitten, so why she was being brought to the side to be spoken to was beyond all of us.

"I wanna know why they're over there..." Xepher mumbled as she tried to get a peek at what the goddess was saying, to no avail. Her back was turned completely to us leaving only kitten to be a source of whatever's happening. She looked a little confused but I could tell she was actually listening to the goddess, unlike when one of us told her a story she wasn't interested in.
