Chapter 21: Ball (Makeover)

"Baka nga si Jyll talaga?" Auri deduced after I told them everything that happened a few hours ago. Nandito kami ngayon sa isang pancake house inside the mall at nagmemeryenda. We really planned to meet each other since bibili raw sila ng mga abubot ko para bukas. Mas excited pa nga sila sa akin. Xerox wasn't around but she's on the phone, we're having a video call with her.

After Gallego barged in the office and reminded me about the tarpaulin, I missed the time to ask Jyll about the flowers. We rushed finishing the designs upang makauwi nang maaga since we need to take a rest. They will be there so early tomorrow to finalize things such as putting fresh flowers and whatsoever. I used 'them' instead of 'us' since they asked me not to come. Magpahinga na lang daw ako, mag-beauty rest at magpaganda para naman daw may ganahang bumili sa'kin. As if I wanted to be bought by someone! Isa pa, anong tingin nila sa akin, hindi maganda?

"Jhya, what do you think?" I asked Jhya who's busy with her phone. Maybe she has some deductions. Beside, she really loves detective stuff. Hindi ko nga alam kung bakit hindi niya 'yon ginagawa sa boyfriend niya. She might be an overthinker but she put so much trust in Venom. Well, that's a good thing. Isa pa, takot na lang ni Ven sa amin kung susubukan niya iyon.

Ilang segundo bago niya inilapag ang phone niya, maybe she's texting with Ven. Akala ko ay sasagot na siya but she just stuffed a pancake in her mouth. Medyo OA ang pagkain niya but I understand a little bit, it's her favorite. Umiling-iling lang ito sa akin. Napakunot ako ng noo. She seems weird.

"So, you think na gusto ka pa rin ng ex mo gano'n?" Xerox said on the other line. Nakakunot ang noo nito at mistulang tatay na naman na nanenermon sa anak. Himala nga't naka-open cam ito ngayon.

"I don't want to give myself false hopes," I answered but I wasn't really sure about it. Sa totoo lang, I'm really buying the conclusion that I already made up in my mind. I am really hoping that it was him. That maybe, just maybe, we're still on the same page.

Pero kung siya man, bakit niya pa kailangang gawin 'yon? I mean, he could have just asked me about it. He should've confessed that he still feels the same way as before. Napailing-iling ako dahil sa naisip ko. Hindi pa nga ako sigurado, pero ito ako ngayon, asang-asa. Kasasabi ko lang kay Xe na I shouldn't give myself false hopes.

"Sa lagay na 'yan, hindi ka humo-hopia ah," nakangising sabi nito. Natawa naman si Auri at kinantiyawan pa ito. Jhya, on the other hand, was seriously eating her pancakes, ignoring us. Okay naman siya kanina no'ng magkita-kita kami. She's actually super hyper with her maarte remarks. Pero no'ng nag-open up ako tungkol sa nangyari kanina, nanahimik na siya. Idagdag mo pa na panay ang tunog ng phone niya at panay din ang type niya. I don't know, wala naman siyang nabanggit na may misunderstanding sila ni Venom. Noong nakaraan meron, pero okay naman na ata.

"Jhya, may problema ka?" Auri asked. Napansin niya rin siguro ang pagbabago ng kilos nito.

"Oh, warla na naman kayo ng jowa mo?" Xerox asked.

"Nah, don't mind me," tipid na sagot nito. She also smiled timidly but I really think something's wrong with her. She even glanced at me with something unexplainable in her eyes.

We changed the topic and just talked about stuff while finishing our snack. Nagpaalam na rin si Xe dahil may gagawin pa daw siyang assignment sa Basic Calculus na hindi naman daw basic so we hang up the video call. Nang mag-iba ang topic ay go na ulit dumaldal si Jhya. Something's really wrong with her pero hindi na namin pinansin. We can't force her to talk about things she doesn't want to open up. We respect each other's privacy. Pero hindi maiwasang ma-bother since naging gano'n lang naman siya no'ng banggitin kong si Jyll ang hinala kong nagpapadala ng bulaklak.
