Welcome to the world of American Gods, where even coin tricks aren't what they seem.
This is Mad Sweeney. A leprechaun from Ireland, who arrived in America in 1700.
"I'm a leprechaun."
"Aren't you a little tall to be a leprechaun?"
"Yeah, well. That's a stereotype."
More stereotypical is the fact that Sweeney's power is good luck that comes from her lucky coin.
Mad Sweeney's name is a reference to Buile Shuibhne, a king from Irish folklore that goes mad.
"I was a king once and then they made me a bird."
The most popular theory as to why Sweeney went mad is:
"On the eve of battle, I looked into the fire and saw my death."
This vision caused Sweeney to fly away, cursing herself to wander Ireland till her death.
Ever since she feels it is her duty to fight again.
" You are the biggest, most unlucky leprechaun I have ever met."
"Bugger off!"
"Bugger yourself off, bitch!"
And maybe soon she will make her wish a reality.
