Chapter Eight

"James, I'm going to fall." She deadpanned, refusing to swing her leg onto the broom.

"No, you're not." He reassured, trying to push the girl unto the middle of the pitch. Neither of them had really brought up the kiss, but it was on both of their minds constantly.

"I have a horrible sense of balance, you know i will." She tried to tell him, but James didn't listen. He was dead set on getting her to cross off this item on her bucket list.

She hesitantly swung her leg over the broom stick, and gripped the broom so hard her knuckles turned white.

"You've got to relax. You can't ride a broom if you're all tense."

"How am i supposed to relax? I can't relax knowing I'm going to be flying around through the air like a circus monkey!" She snapped, feeling slightly stressed. Not only had she gotten little to no sleep these past few days, she's been getting nauseous alot, too.

James giggled, finding the upset girl in front of him rather hilarious. "This isn't funny, Potter. I could fall 30 feet in the air and splat onto the floor like a pancake."

"You've got to learn to trust me." He tried to persuade her, taking her hand in his so she would calm down a bit. "After all, I am the best, most dashing quidditch captain Hogwarts has ever seen." He winked with a smile on his features.

"I'm amazed you can stay balanced on the broom with a head as big as yours." She laughed, easing some of her anxiety. He told her to lightly push of the floor, so she would just be hovering a few feet above it.

He let go of her hand as they were gripped tightly to the broom, and instead took a step back to watch her. "You've got this! Just lean forward a bit." She glanced at him nervously, but the wide smile he displayed calmed her just enough to listen to what he was saying.

She pushed off the floor lightly, hovering about two feet off the ground. The broom was shaking as she was too nervous and inexperienced to know how to control it. She laughed lightly, before the broom tipped over, and she fell to the floor.

"I bloody hate flying." She complained, dusting off her robes.

"You don't hate flying, you just don't know how to control the broom." He thought for a moment before swinging his leg over his broom. "Hop on."

"No, No, no. No way am i getting on a broom with you." She adamantly refused. "Knowing you, you'll do flips in the air just to show off."

James laughed, knowing that was something he would do. "I promise I won't do anything you're not comfortable with." The sincerity in his words is what caused a disgruntled Tobi Kitman to finally throw her leg over the broom.

She placed her arms around his middle, not very tight, just enough to keep her balance so she didn't fall off. James was  happy that she wasn't facing him or else she would have seen the dopey smile on his face.

Shw wasn't expecting the take off to be as abrupt as it was, and her arms tightened around him as her speed picked up. "Merlin, slow down!" She called over the wind, burying her head in his back, as the wind nipped at her eyes.

He slowed the monstrosity of a broom down so they were slowly coasting through the air, but her death grip didn't loosen. "If you hold me any tighter I think I'd split in half, darling." Her mind didn't register the pet name, as she slowly let go of her grip on the boy.

"Okay, Okay! You've made your point, James. Now please. let me down!" She begged, not liking this experience one bit. Much to James displeasure, he flew the broom to the ground and let her climb off. "I've never been so happy to be on solid land before." She smiled, hugging the grass in delight.
