Somehow, I managed to catch Devyn's eye in the living room before we were out, and she definitely looked a little surprised. But then the door was shut and it didn't matter. Colby led me to the bridge where we started walking along. I stayed on the safer part, for obvious reasons.

"There's something you don't know about God," Colby said slowly as we walked. "The woman he was with a couple of days ago... she's his wife. Her name is Fate but she hasn't been with him for very long."

"How long?"

"Only a couple of centuries. Anyway, Sam is God's son but Fate isn't his mother. She came into the picture a century or so after Sam's mom died, and I guess it was fate that brought Fate."

"That's kinda confusing," I giggled. He smiled a bit, but it was overcome with sadness. "Is there more to this story?"

"Yes." He took a deep breath before pausing on the edge of the bridge and sitting down on the wall. He pulled me forwards so that I was stood in front of him where I was pulled against his chest, arms around my body. "Fate is actually my mother."

My heart dropped.

"Which makes Sam my step brother, I guess."

"So that's where you get all your handsomeness from." I tried to lighten the mood, turning his face one way then the other with a single hand beneath his jaw. He rolled his eyes, bringing me somehow closer before tugging my shirt.

"Shut up, Ari."

I leaned down and kissed him, both of us still smiling. Just as I was about to pull back anyway, a roar of thunder boomed through the entirety of hell soon followed by a shot of lightning straight to the front porch of the house.

"What was that?" I asked as I squinted to see what was going on.

"God. He's angry. Come on, we gotta go." Colby grabbed my arm and flashed us onto the balcony where he left me to jump down into the throne room. Jake was already stood there staring through the front door as another crackle of lightning rang out. I flinched at that one.

"Ari!" Devyn called before appearing right beside me. "Good, I thought you might have gotten caught up in the storm."

"What's happening?"

"God's pissed for some reason, I'm not sure. Just stay up here out of firing range, okay?" I nodded, though I had my doubts. Devyn flashed downstairs to be next to Corey, who was standing defensively in preparation for the big guy who was going to walk through those doors. It felt like everybody was nervous.

God's arrival wasn't quiet.

In fact, he wasn't even the first one to storm into the room. His guards - two short angels - threw in my worst nightmare when Xepher had asked me to go with her this morning. He had found them in heaven, and he'd thrown them back down to hell. Devyn's words flew from my mind as I instantly ran at the stairs. I got to Xepher in no time, dropping down beside her.

"What happened?" I whispered as God and his guards stormed into the throne room. Xepher just shook her head trying to push me away, but I didn't leave her. I grabbed her and Cassie's arms and dragged the both of them to the side where Reggie quickly took them. Jake had flashed to Tara and back, leaving Griffin and Kevin still in the line of fire. Thankfully, Aryia flashed in and out to grab them.

Xepher was weaker than usual, so I felt the need to look after her. I stood in between her and the entourage in the throne room, blocking my best friend from harm.

"You better have a damn explanation for me as to why five of your soldiers were in heaven just now."

Colby's eyebrows rose partly in surprise as he glanced over at the people who had disobeyed his most strict law.
