Colby stared God directly in the eye with defiance flaring in them. He didn't want to do what he was being told and anybody in the room could have told God that, but something told me that Colby liked ruling hell, so he wasn't going to just give it up.
"Do you have anything already in mind?" Sam, surprisingly, questioned as he tugged Katrina forwards.
I noticed Tara trying to get at her, which caused one of the angel guards at the back of the formation to edge closer.
"I am not interested, so clearly not," Colby growled back.
I bit my lip, thinking of last night when he kissed me and told me he was starting to like me. How serious was he being? Did he actually like me already and didn't want to completely admit it?
I wasn't sure what it was, but something brought the woman's eyes to travel around the room, landing on me rather than anyone else. Maybe because I was the only new person there, but it made me uncomfortable the way she stared at me for a long time during the God and Devil stare-off. In fact, by the time she stopped looking at me, God was already on his way over to her. She whispered something into his ear, giving him a meaningful look. When he turned around, his eyes locked on me and he smirked a little.
"Colby, may I officially meet your new... 'soldier'? Or must I take her from her room again?"
"You have no reason," Colby snapped.
Xepher got a firm hold on my hand, pulling me right up against her side before stepping her entire body in front of mine. I continued to peer down the balcony at God, his apparent girlfriend, and everybody else.
"No, only curious." God turned his attention up to me. "Come on down, girl, I only wish to-"
"You're not going to even speak to her. You've given me your lecture so you're done now. Leave hell before we kick you out." There was a long silence after Colby's words.
God's face said it all, but the woman's was soft and caring. So much so that when she walked forwards - elegance pouring out of every inch of her - not even Kevin or Corey moved to stop her. She walked right up to the throne and reached forwards, stealing Colby's hand.
"May I please just speak with her? A private word outside?" she asked sweetly.
I almost wanted to call out my answer, which was 'yes' even though it could have been the stupidest and most dangerous thing I had ever done. I didn't even know who the woman was and if she was a threat or not... but she didn't seem like it.
"No."
"Colby." When the motherly tone came out in her voice, it was the first time I saw any resemblance between her and Colby. Come to think of it, the way they were looking at each other - whether Colby meant it or not - screamed longing for one another in a familial way. Her bright blue eyes and her authoritative look were exactly the same as Colby's.
What is the relationship between them?
"Kevin, Corey, escort them out of hell itself," Colby ordered coldly.
The woman's hurt face made my heart break as she sighed and turned away. She took ahold of God's hand and nodded towards the guards at the back. They turned to the front door and, without even a second of hesitation, walked out. Sam and Katrina quickly followed whilst God and the woman allowed even the front guards to pass them.
"Next time, you'll have more respect and manners. I hope having a queen will do this to you anyway, but I have my doubts." God waved a hand in the air in dismissal before spinning on his heels and almost storming out.
Kevin and Corey followed them whilst Elton and Mike stood guard either side of the door. Everyone waited for a moment just staring into space until Jake finally spoke up.
"Do I dare say it?" he asked lightly, pointing his question towards Colby, who was staring at him with a fire in his eyes. "God does make a good point. Both heaven and hell need two powerful forces each to rule them, and if that doesn't happen, it won't last very long at all."
Colby's voice came out sharp. "Jake I'm going to give you ten seconds to flash as far away from here as possible before I send you to the prison without argument this time."
Jake stared at him blankly for a moment, frowning until Colby continued.
"Eight, seven, si- "
He finally disappeared. Colby merely nodded in approval and stood up. "Do not do anything until we are certain that everybody who came down to hell today has gone back to heaven. We don't want a repeat of last time." He flashed out of the room before anybody could say anything.
Taking one glance behind me told me all I needed to know about his whereabouts. He was in his room, probably raging.
"Xepher," I whispered, tugging on her hand, "give me a moment?"
She glanced between me and the double doors leading to Colby's room before shaking her head and tightening her hand. "Never visit him when he's angry in there or you'll get hurt."
"Just... look, it's important, okay?"
I didn't want to have to do it, but if Xepher wasn't going to let me go then I would have to yank my hand away from her. Thankfully, she let go of me with a gentle but reluctant nod. I rushed across the balcony to the double doors, not bothering to knock as I opened one and slid through.
Just as I was closing it, a deep, angry voice spoke from the other side of the room. "Leave."
It was Colby and he was angry. He was angrier, in fact, than I'd ever seen him before in my time in hell. He wasn't even this mad last time. So I ignored him, walking over to the bed where he was sat and taking a seat beside him. He turned his face away from me, his jaw clenched.
"You don't have to talk about it, Colby. Just... keep calm."
"I've never kept calm in my life, Arianna," he grumbled back.
I moved over the space between us so that I was right beside him and turned his face to me. He refused to look into my eyes no matter what, so I chose the other option. I pulled him by the back of the neck as I sat up to meet him in the middle. Our lips connected, sparks flying just like the first time.
He was slow at first but as he realised that his anger was slipping away, he got more passionate. His hands grabbed my waist, his body got closer, and his lips got hungrier. He was kissing me like he needed me again, but this time he needed me to stay calm; to stop a new hole from appearing in the first wall he got his hands on. I was his filter between aggression and violence. Although I wasn't any better, I somehow managed to stop him.
"Goddammit," Colby breathed as he pulled back only a little. He leaned our foreheads together, breathing heavily. "I just tried to explain that I don't need a damn woman to rule by my side and then you come in and pull a stunt like that."
He dragged me back in for a long kiss, this time shuffling me back on his bed until I hit the headboard. My entire body felt like it was tingling as he moved away from my lips to my jaw, and continued on down to my neck. I found myself holding my breath and grasping the back of his head and his shoulder. Part of me was regretting wearing a short t-shirt, however, when he jumped down to the part of my stomach on show. I sucked in a massive breath, staring down at him. My heart was pounding by that point, my head spinning with the possibilities of what was about to happen.
He slowly lifted my shirt up as he came back towards my face until he got to my chest, which he didn't expose. He came back up to my lips placing featherlight kisses on them as he rubbed circles on my skin.
"Are you okay with this?" he asked, his hand travelling up my bare side. "I need... I need a bigger distraction."
"Is that all this is to you?" I questioned in a slightly sharp tone.
He gave me a pleading look that broke my heart, though, as he shifted more over the top of me.
"Don't be like that," he said. "Please."
I was reluctant, but I eventually nodded. He grew this cute little smile on his face before leaning down to kiss my neck again. It was sweet and gentle until the heat of the moment got to him, and he let loose on me.
I never expected that day to go quite the way it did, but I couldn't really find anything bad about it, no matter how hard I tried...
