Chapter 12: Flight

Start from the beginning

As I was listening intently when I felt a tug at the side of my notebook. Sasori pulled the book closer to him and began jotting down something at the corner of the page. He finished writing and pushed the book back to me.

The note read: "You up for watching the bimbo explode some clay at the side of the road today?6pm. " I turned my head to look at him but his eyes were fixed on the board. I hurriedly wrote the reply right beside.

"Sure, see you there?" And I passed it back to him.

"At 5:45. In front of Starbucks, don't make me wait."

And the lesson passed by with a small grin spread on my face.
-
After lunch with the others, excluding Sasori and Deidara- they went for their shift at Starbucks- I went back to the dorm with Akira. Very gladly, we took the elevator this time. I removed the gauze wrapping from my foot and took a long hot shower the water was soothing against my skin, and the scent of vanilla and mint filled my senses. I then put on a fresh set of clothes- consisting of a navy blue denim button on shirt and a pair of black leggings, changed the gauze on my foot and plopped down on my bed. It was 3:15 so I still had about 3 hours until I had to meet Sasori. I put my headphones on and zoned out whilst I whizzed through my copy of Looking For Alaska for the umpteenth time.

Sasori's POV

"ONE CHOCOLATE CHIP LATTE FOR JESSLYN,UN!" Deidara hollered to me from the front of the counter. It was already 5:30 and our shift was almost ending. I brewed the coffee and wrote the girl's name on the cup with a smiley behind, making sure the lid was secure. I passed it to Deidara. He gave the drink to her alongside a small wink and I can swear to god that her face looked like a tomato. I rolled my eyes and pulled my apron over my head and hung it on a hook behind me. "Oi your 'show' is starting in 30 minutes. Are you sure you don't want to leave now?" I said, lacing annoyance into my voice. He knows I hate making people wait, vice versa. Which includes whichever idiot that decides to stick around to watch him blow stuff up on the side of the road. "Okay okay,un." He replied. "Can't keep my lovely audience waiting, yeah?" He turned around and flashed me a toothy grin followed by his 'kawaii' double peace sign beside his eyes. I then rolled my eyes for the millionth time today and walked to the front of the counter.

She should be here any minute now I thought as I glanced out at the busy street in front of me.
-
10 minutes passed and she still wasn't here yet. I didn't have a mirror but I was sure that a vein popped up on my forehead. It was 5:55 and there was no sign of her. Me, being the punctuality saint I was, could not stand waiting for anyone. So I called her. First ring. Second ring. Third ring- The number you have dialed is not answering. Please leave a message after the beep. I pressed end call darkly and glowered at my phone. Oh no she didn't. I grabbed my bag and went out the door, headed in the direction of the college.

-
I reached the college in 3 minutes flat and snuck into the girls dormitory without getting caught and went to her floor. I reached her door and rapped on it loudly- no answer. I tried twisting the knob and turns out it was unlocked. I went into the dorm carefully, watching for signs of an intruder- as if myself wasn't one. The dorms layout was the same as mine and all the doors were open except for one- the bedroom. I cautiously opened the door and peeped inside. There, lying sprawled out on the bed, hair disheveled, open book lying beside was the one and only- Kagami Tanigawa.

I walked to the side of the bed and peered down at her. Her face was nicely shaped, angular and defined; Her dark hair was disheveled with a few loose fly-aways resting gently on her face. Without noticing, I gently brushed off the hair from her face. After that I suddenly snapped back from my daze. She's late and she made you wait, wake her up and get to Deidara's stupid show already. I agreed with the voice in my head and gently shook her shoulder, moving her ever so slightly- but she still didn't stir. I shook her again- still no response. I bent down beside her head and whispered "Wake up." All of a sudden, her head jolted and turned me.

Eyes wide and looking directly into mine, our noses almost touching, we stayed there for a few seconds until I decided to pull the biggest stunt of my life.

I kissed her.

Her mouth felt soft against mine. Warm and sweet. She tasted like strawberries. I laced my fingers through her hair and pulled her closer. I was almost surprise when she didn't flinch but instead wrapped her arms around my waist. We continued feverishly until I suddenly snapped open my eyes. Shit I forgot about Deidara. I pulled away from her and stared blankly at her. Her face was flushed and she stared back at me. I quickly regained my composure and said "We should hurry. Deidaras probably waiting for us." I expected her to stand up and slap me but she stood up quietly and nodded. We headed to the alley in science.

Kagami's POV

What on earth just happened? I accidentally dozed off while reading and I woke up to the red head beside me and before I knew it we were making out? Well after all of that the silence now is torture, he hasn't said a word since we left. But hey, at least my ankle didn't hurt anymore.

We were nearing the alley when we noticed a crowd of people gathering and the sound of a loud speaker commanding the masses.

"NOW NOW, UN!" The voice boomed "MAKE SURE YOU DONT STAND TOO CLOSE, YEAH! DONT WANT ANYONE OF YOU GETTING BLOWN UP, UN. ENJOY THE SHOW!!" The crowd exploded in cheers.

"Come on," Sasori said as he grabbed my hand, weaving us through to the front. His grip was firm but gentle and he didn't release until we were right in front of Dei and his explosions. "Danna! Right on time, un." The blonde grinned, looking at his watch and back up. "Its six thirty, you were supposed to start thirty minutes ago." Sasori spat, flame for punctuality flaring up again, grip on my hand tightening. "Well you're here now aren't ya,un?" He answered, still grinning. Deidara held up the speaker again and exclaimed "OKAY FOLKS NOW FOR THE FIRST PIECE- PHOENIX'S FLIGHT!!" The crowd erupted in cheers as Deidara brought up a beautiful clay sculpture of a Phoenix and duct taped a stick of dynamite on it. He pulled out a lighter and counted down "3! 2! 1!" And lit the fuse and ran.

The explosion was grand and loud, bits of white clay flying in every direction. The crowd plus a few spectators by the side dodged the flying bits of clay and when the smoke subsided, they continued cheering. "THANK YOU, THANK YOU AND NOW FOR THE NEXT PIECE-"

I couldn't catch what he said next when a certain puppet master tugged on my hand and pulled me out of the crowd and started running. In a daze I let him guide me, air filling my lungs as we weaved through the street. Where we were going? I had absolutely no idea.
