You were on the roof with your best friend; Karen Smith, soon to be Karen Rooney. It was the day before her wedding day, and you were having your final moments together. As you laid your head on her lap and lit your final cigarette together.

"Smoking cigarettes on the roof

"You're listening to that song again? (Y/N) people are going to start becoming suspicious," Karen said as she gathered her things from her locker for her next class.

"So what? I'm not ashamed in who I am, Kare-bear," you said, gently grabbing her face and going to kiss her.
She kissed back but pulled away quickly, realizing that people could see you two.
"Come on, babe, live a little, your religious parents can't stop you here," you said and winked at her, swinging your backpack off your shoulder and into your locker.
"I- Well- I just don't want to disappoint them,"

"You coming to my place later? We can go to the roof and stargaze again, smoke a little," you asked.

"Honey, your sister was very supportive when I came out to her, I'm sure she'll support you, and us," you slung your arm around her shoulders and pulled her into a side hug.
"Well, yeah, but I just-"
"Hey Smith," Pete Rooney cut in, "it was great meeting you yesterday. Maybe we could go on an official date sometime?"
"Back off, nutbucket, this ones mi-"
"I'd love to!" Karen said, pulling away from your grasp.
You stared at her in shock, "What the hell?" you mouthed to her. "I'm sorry," she mouthed back, "I'll call you later."
She turned around, grasping Pete's arm and started walking to her next class.
"It's always to please her family," you thought, sighing.

Karen took it from your hand, taking a hit herself and looking at you, a sad smile making its way to her mouth as tears streamed down her face.
