i used to hate the color of my eyes.

i thought to myself,
blue like oceans,
grey like ice,
green like grass
and i got shit brown?

for real?

but then one day, it all changed.

suddenly my eyes were brown like the soil of the earth, from which we are born and to which we return.

i saw gold specks floating in my iris like sunlight, and honey drizzle shined their warm glaze around the outer rim.

deep chocolate, bittersweet near the center to draw you in and then freeze you as you realize that this is the answer to everything.

this color is where everything begins and ends.

i used to hate the color of my eyes.

but that all changed the day i met you,
and i realized

they are the same color
as yours.
