"There wasn't a moment during my childhood where I thought my life would end up where it is right now. I was destined for a life of immeasurable greatness from the moment I was born, and I think, nothing could have kept me from achieving that back then. But look at me. I'm in this unbearable place where every morning I ask myself, 'Who's going to be next?' I have to detach myself from it before it takes over. He took a breath.

"I am sorry."

He shifted in his seat, gaze still averted to a pile of books and files he had been previously sifting through, then for a moment, silence fell over the library.
They stayed there for a while and in the thickness of that quiet air, Byakuya lifted his head to meet Kyoko's once again, unreadable eyes. She had been watching him the entire time.

He started again. In a slow and precise tone, aiming to speak every word carefully.

"But now, as I'm looking at you, it makes me think. Through all these years I don't believe that I've truly lived until now."
