"Sorry, sir." She said to quickly escape Demilade wrath. She quickly gave Lola her phone and she left.
Demilade said nothing. He just stared at Lola.
"I think you are getting too blunt for my likeness." He said.
"You will have to live with it. If you behave, I won't be like this. You scared the two of us. Would you have liked it if I did the same to you?" She asked.
He fisted his hand and he tried to calm his temper. The truth was he is not used to people talking back at him. Everyone does what he wants. And even if they do not like it, they do it anyway because it is him.
But not the lady in his front. She was talking so bluntly for his likeness. He never knew she was so feisty. She was nothing like her quiet and gentle father.
"Are you talking to me in that manner?" He asked.
"Look Mr Demilade. I know you are a Billionaire and you are older than me but this is a deal. We need each other. But this won't work if you won't respect me. If you don't respect me, I won't do the same. Respect is not a right. It is EARNED." She emphasized the last word.
And she closed her eyes to be calm. She hates getting angry and Demilade had been doing a wonderful job to bring out that side of her.
"Are we going or not?" She asked calmly now. "I'm sorry." She apologized.
Demilade said nothing but just walked out and she followed him to the car parked in front of the house waiting for them.
They entered the car and the driver start the car. She was glad it was not her father. She can't sit at the back and let her father drive her around.
And that was one of the reasons she is been calm with Demilade. He had done a beautiful thing by telling her father not to work for thirty days and that she will be staying with him. And he will pay him his salary to the fullest at the end of the month. She is very grateful for that.
The party was interesting. It was nothing like what she expected and like she had never attended. The people are high class. The hosts are gorgeous in their expensive dresses. She was grateful that Demilade had bought all those expensive clothes for her. She could feel the eyes of a few men on her and she saw the look on the females most especially the youngest of the female hosts.
She can't stop staring at Demilade and it was obvious she doesn't like her. But if only she knows that it was all a fake. But she didn't say anything and she played along as planned.
Demilade introduced her to a few of his friends. She likes the one with his pretty slender wife. He was very funny. The short one, Fareed just as they called him won't stop asking questions and ogling at her.
And she stood in the spotlight for a while with Demilade. Everyone seems to respect and like her because of him.
And she guessed that is what it takes to be the girlfriend of a Billionaire. Although it was hard she tried to appear cultured. And she was polite and she smiled at everyone.
When they finally get home around eleven the night, she went straight to her room. Demilade who had been tapping on his phone since they got into the car said nothing as she leave the sitting room. He was still in the sitting room tapping on his phone when she left the living room.
She thought if he is an alien that he didn't appear tired. But she guessed that was his way of life. The one he had grown up knowing. And he was used to it.
Her phone rang and it was from Ibukun. She groaned in protest. Ibukun won't let her accomplish her mission of going to bed immediately. She will keep her up.
But she picked it up anyway and she put on speaker so she changes out of her clothes while talking.
"Hello, girl. How was your dinner party?" She asked. She had told her last night during their call.
"It was fine IB. I'm just getting back and I am tired."
"Pele dear. But at least you enjoy yourself." She said.
"Yeah. I do. If you see the way those ladies were looking at me. It's like they want to eat me. Jealousy was oozing out of them." She said.
"Who won't he, girl? You are with one of the youngest richest men in Africa and he is also handsome. What more can a girl wants?" Ibukun said.
"You are right sha. But IB if you see the gowns and lace those ladies wear, you will feel like licking them."
"Seriously. Tell me something." IB said.
And Lola began to tell her about the styles and materials of the clothes she saw on the women. She had even forgotten that she wants to sleep.
"That party bam then. I wish I am in your shoe baby girl. So enjoy it while it lasts." IB said.
"I hear you. So how was your day? How is Peter?"
"I dey. Today is okay. And Peter the idiot hasn't called me."
"Won't you call him IB? Stop playing hard to get."
"I'm not playing hard to get. That guy is too dull. He should act more like a man if he wants to date me." She said.
The usual Ibukun. She pretends that she doesn't care about something but deep down she cares. But she will never let you know.
"Na you sabi," Lola said.
"Yes oh."
"I want to sleep, girl. We will talk tomorrow." Lola said yawning.
"Okay. I will leave you now. Goodnight."
"You too. Goodnight. Sweet dreams bestie."
"Sweet dreams Bella." She said and Lola smiled. Anytime she calls Ibukun bestie she calls her bella meaning beautiful in Italian.
The girl had never gotten used to her calling her best friend or she don't want to admit it. But she knows that if they ask Ibukun who her best friend is, she won't hesitate to call her name.
She smiled and went to plug her phone in and she went to wash the makeup on her face away before going to enjoy the comfort her bed has to offer.
