“Cut!” the director yelled as I couldn’t stop laughing. It was our last day of filming The Secret Patriot: Never Let Go; the first of three movies. It’s set during the American Revolution and Ben Barnes, (who plays Samuel Adams) messed up big time on one of his lines. “Let’s… do that again,” he said between laughs. “And this time, no laughs and no messing up.”

The cliffhanger of The Secret Patriot

Christina ran down the streets of Boston. She had to get to Samuel before it was too late. She turned and took a shortcut through the alley.  Soon enough, she arrived at the Green Dragon Tavern.

Christina thrust open the door but to her shock and dismay, Samuel was nowhere to be found. “Where is he?” she asked Tim Kelly who was sitting at a table.

“They took him Christina. It’s over now.” he replied. Her heart felt heavy and empty at the same time. Christina sat down in a corner and tucked her legs against her chest. Deep inside, she knew that this was not how it would end.

“Cut! The director yelled. “That’s a wrap!” The entire cast cheered. We had finally finished the first of three movies in the series. Ben Barnes walked over to me.

“Don’t you just hate it when a movie leaves off in a cliffhanger?” he asked in his british accent.

“Don’t forget about books, they do it too.” I responded.

“Lauren, Ben,” the director said, coming over to us.. “Let's take some pictures of you on set.”

“Okay.” we both said at the same time. I smiled.

Ben and I just finished our little photo shoot and are going to our trailers to get out of our costumes. “I can’t wait to go to the premiere.” I said, breaking the silence.

Ben smiled. “It will be awhile before that. The movie still has to be edited and… stuff.” I chuckled at his lack of film making knowledge.

When I got to my trailer, I stopped. I decided to wear my costume (which consisted of a white under-vest, a blue coat, beige pants, and tall, black boots) home. I pulled my long, brown hair back in a hairbow and waited outside Ben’s trailer to invite him over to my house. He accepted and I pulled out my phone to tell my mom.

Soon enough, my mom pulled up in the parking lot and we got inside, chatting happily about our last day of filming. “Let’s get something to eat, I’m hungry.” I said, buckling in my seat belt. Ben did the same.

“Okay, where to?” she asked as she turned onto the highway.

“I dunno, McDonalds?” I suggested. Mom nodded. Turning to Ben, I said “I can’t wait to start filming the next movie!” He agreed and we laughed and talked some more until I heard my mom gasp and felt the car jerk to the right. The car collided with a red pick-up truck and flipped onto its side, with the truck on top of us. I screamed and managed to unbuckle my seat belt and crawl out of the broken window. Police who (thank God) happened to be next to us when it happened, were helping my mom out.

“Where’s Ben?!” I screamed and stuck my head back in the window. He was on the side that hit the road. I saw him, unconscious, or dead, I wasn’t sure which one, with shattered window glass covering him.

Tears streamed down my face as I struggled to undo his seat belt when the police pulled me out. “Let me go!” I yelled, struggling against them. The police pulled the car door open and the paramedics rushed to retrieve him.

As I cried, the world blurred from my tears and dropped onto the pavement.

“Get him to the hospital!” I heard someone shot.

I put my hand over his chest and to my pleasure, it was beating. “Ben,” I said, my voice breaking big time. “Stay with me.” I whispered.
