Warning: this chapter contains spoilers for the arcs Water 7/Ennies Lobby & onward

before starting, im aware that not everyone watches the subbed version, so here's a quick explanation:

- rokushiki: six powers/six styles
- shigan: finger pistol
- rankyaku: tempest kick
- soru: shave
- geppo: moonwalk
- kami-e: paper art/paper arts
- rokuogan: rokuogan

having said that, let's get this rant started, shall we? ಥ_ಥ
and i'm gonna do my best to not let my antagonist loving ass have too much of a bias here... the cp9 are among my faves, even the main plot in my stand-alone zoro one shot... oops?

anyway!

rokushiki, six arts/styles, whatever. i think we can all agree that it's a pretty damn cool fighting style, right? like... it makes someone a straight up one man(or woman) army, which is fuckin impressive imo. and perfect for the cp9, since they're essentially undercover assassins, and that shit won't leave any solid evidence of the attack behind

well, here's my 'issue' with it:

it's such a unique style that oda introduces along with the users, the cp9, and gets everyone all hyped about it– i mean, the powerful strawhats we've seen overcome so many things with ease were damn near annihilated with little to no effort as soon as we were introduced to it! lucci straight up just threw both luffy & zoro out a damn window as if he was just sweating flies, then went about his business like nothing happened. truly iconic

and imo, the fact that some of the cp9 have devil fruits (especially lucci & jabra with their carnivorous zoan) as well made them even more powerful.
...even if kalifa's was literally soap, she made pretty damn good use of it

[ and on a sidenote, she and kaku got their DFs on the same day of the fight with the strawhats, and showed great skills with them. imagine if they actually had more time to practice! they'd be really fuckin strong, ngl ]

and yet, despite rokushiki being so creative and unique, it got... kinda ruined for me

like, it was introduced as this incredible superhuman fighting style only a select few had, and had been practicing since childhood to master it, right?

but nope!

first of all, luffy not only instantly figures out the trick to one of the techniques (soru) but somehow finds a way to improve it within what, a day? less than a day?

second, as the plot goes on, more and more people are shown to know bits of rokushiki. soru or geppo, for the most part, but still...

and am i so passionate (maybe even petty) about this that i went to the wiki and grabbed a list of the people who can use some techniques? yes, yes i did!

and here they are:
[ some are non-canon ]

– Koby
– Vice Admiral Momonga
– Vice Admiral Dalmatian
– Tashigi
– Vergo
– Stussy (kinda torn on her, since she's part of the CP0, but figured i'd add her)
– Charlotte Yuen
– Charlotte Dectuplets Males
– Kibin
– Shuzo
– Z
– Binz
– Byrnndi World
– Ant De Bonham
– Shimoi Zappa
– Diomis
– Douglas Bullet
– Sanji

in Koby's case he can use all of them. every. single. one. and that just... kinda annoys me? i can sort of give a pass to some of the above people, since they know one or two at best, but c'mon man... all six of them? (¬_¬)

here's a screenshot from the wiki page:

lucci very clearly states how the cp9 has been training since they can remember to learn them. and even in their case, some seem to not have mastered it fully – if you remember Nero, for example, he was a cp9 agent that only knew four of them if i recall. i clearly remember him having actual guns since he couldn't use shigan, and i think he could also use soru, but not perfectly?

if the cp9 are a top secret organization of goverment assassins who are trained since childhood to become pretty much superhuman, how on earth did so many more people outside said organization learn these as well? i don't get it at all, man

in my opinion, there's a reason that the ennies lobby arc is a favourite for so many fans of OP, and why the luffy vs lucci fight is so memorable. that reason is the rokushiki: the skillset that puts such a huge difference between the strawhats and their opponents

and while yes, the strawhats did have a very, very hard time to best the cp9, the mere fact that they pulled it off feels kinda...wrong? like, these dudes are straight up fuckin killing machines. lucci literally killed hundreds of people all by himself when he was what, 12 or 13? i get it that the protagonists gotta win, and was obviously rooting for them, yet the fact that they did rubs me the wrong way ( ̄へ ̄; )

but hey, a somewhat comforting thought to me is that oda has actually confirmed that every cp9 agent learned armament & observation haki during the timeskip; and i strongly believe that he wouldn't just say that out of nowhere. oda certainly isn't the type of guy who would throw that kind of information out and do absolutely nothing with it, y'know?

...that's about it for this lil rant, i guess? just had to get this off my chest, it's most likely a kinda dumb opinion that i am once again looking way too much into, but hey. overthinking literally everything is what i do best! ╮(─▽─)╭

and on a somewhat unrelated note, lucci's lil beard-thing looks absolutely hilarious post timeskip. kinda like a celestial dragon's atrocious hairdo, but upside down. my dude, who told you this was a good idea?

just... why. why. look, i love ya, but you're taking it too far ಥ⌣ಥ

well, im gonna end this here, leaving you to laugh at lucci's dumb choices.

...but do share your own opinion on the matter if you want to as well (°∀°)b
