Angelic Hierarchy & Duties

***The angelic order used in An Angelic Devotion is based off of Christian angelology. Underlined descriptions may be inaccurate to traditional beliefs — I've changed some information obtained from Wikipedia and Goperri.com to better fit my story.***

Seraphim – sometimes called "the burning ones" because they are closest to God and radiate Pure Light. These are the Angels who constantly sing God's praise, and whose duty it is to regulate the heavens.

· Only one seraph per guild

· Requires guardian (Principality) to protect them off ACA campus

· Gifted with nonviolent, white magic superpowers

· Uses abilities to help humans rather than fighting demons

· Most vulnerable to demon attacks while being the harmonizer of each guild

Duty: To heal humans and angels from damage caused by demons with white magic powers

Example: Ophelia

Thrones – called the many eyed ones have the duty of carrying out God's decisions. They are often represented as fiery wheels:

· Panel of exacting lawmakers to earth angels

· Has the power to immortalize (utmost punishment) celestials when they believe they've done wrong

· Embodies every superpower known to the Lion Society

· Unperceivable to angels until they choose not to be, but are always watching

Duty: To oversee every guild within the Lion Society and advise Dominions in times of hardship

Example: The Thrones

Dominions – their job is to regulate the duties of the other angels and ensure that God's wishes are carried out:

· Uphold immediate guild members and makes sure everyone is doing what they're supposed to

· Enforces laws set by The Thrones

· Recruits potential earth angels

Duty: Manage immediate guild members and keep the academy running smoothly

Example: Leopold, Rothschild

Powers – their job is to prevent the 'fallen angels' from taking over the world and keeping the universe in balance. They are also seen as the angels of birth and death:

· Helps Principalities and seraphim, but don't participate in exorcism raids

· Comprised of academy staff (weapon makers, combat and super ability instructors)

· Typically bestowed with nonviolent superpowers

Duty: To provide their guild with learning experiences and fortify Principalities

Example: Nova, Maxwell

Principalities – the Guardian Angels of cities, nations and rulers, and guards against the invasion of evil angels:

· Makes up exorcism brigade

· Strongest in terms of offense in their guild, but are the lowest ranked angel in the Lion Society hierarchy

· Embodies violent/ defensive powers to be used against demons

Duty: To fight demons in exorcism raids and protect humans
