Chapter six
Allyson and Vikki were currently sitting on the roof with me, the two of them practically jumping in excitement.
I had just finished telling them everything that had happened with Caleb three times. They insisted I tell them every little detail. I tried to explain that there wasn't much to tell, Caleb and I weren't even friends, but they wouldn't listen. They were convinced this was the beginning of a classic romance book. As if.

After the Hunters left, Momma informed me that we would be having dinner with the Hunters every single Friday. Great. I couldn't fathom how Caleb Hunter could be free every Friday, then again, I doubt he had a choice.

Normally I would protest and complain that I have plans for Fridays, when in reality my only plans were a sleepover with Allyson and Vikki like tonight, but Momma seemed extremely excited to finally have a friend. I wasn't going to mess that up for her. I put away my complaints and agreed. Lucas did as well, after I threatened to tell Momma about the vase he broke last week. He was quick to oblige.

"So, you mean that is Caleb Hunter's sweatshirt?" Vikki squealed.

I rolled my eyes. I had already explained this to them. They were fascinated by it all. Vikki and Allyson's eyes were huge as they stared at me. They looked like they were watching their favorite concert.

I was now, once again, wearing Caleb's sweatshirt. Next to me was one of my own jackets so when it hit midnight I could switch them out. I had planned to just keep the jacket around my waist but the second we stepped on the roof I regretted my decision. It was cold and windy which was not a great combination. I ended up putting the sweatshirt back on. This of course made the girls squeal.

"Yes, for the last time, this is his sweatshirt," I replied, exasperated.

"I can't believe you skipped class with him. You never skip class," Allyson gushed.

"I think I'm liking the new Annabeth," Vikki laughed.

I gaped at her, "What new Annabeth? There is no new Annabeth. I'm the same person I've always been," I protested.

Allyson and Vikki shared a knowing look. I had no idea what they were talking about. "Well actually I guess not a new Annabeth, more like the old Annabeth is back," she cautioned.

"Yeah. I mean skipping class to play truth or dare, throwing a speaker off a roof, those are all things the old Annabeth would do," Vikki agreed.

I couldn't believe what they were saying. The old Annabeth? "What is that supposed to mean?" I questioned.
Allyson sighed, "You know, how you used to be before Carolyn passed away,"

Carolyn? "What does my sister have to do with this?" I squinted.

Vikki gave me a sad smile, "After Carolyn died, you changed. You weren't the same bold girl who lived life to the fullest, the girl who said whatever was on her mind and didn't let anyone talk down to her. When she died it was like you were afraid to be yourself,"

"We still love you and always will but, it's just, you changed," Allyson added.
I didn't remember changing. I wanted them to elaborate but, sadly, I didn't have time to press the matter further.
Caleb's window shot open. I had previously told the girls that if he were to come out then they had to hush immediately. I didn't want Caleb to get the wrong idea.

Our eyes immediately went to the window. A girl around our age was being aggressively pushed out, in only her underwear. The window slammed shut. The poor girl shivered, her black, lacy lingerie did not seem to be keeping her warm.

Vikki snickered. I slapped her on the arm while Allyson whispered, "Poor girl,"

"It looked like Caleb had plans for tonight," Vikki laughed quietly.
It took me a minute to recognize the girl. It was Tracy Blair, the girl Caleb called during truth or dare. It looked like he held up his end of the deal.
I sighed and picked up the jacket. "You realize if you give her that you'll have to wear Caleb's sweatshirt for the rest of the night," Vikki stopped me.
