Him. Tearing my gaze off Carmen, I pulled my wristbands down. This time, consciously.

Her voice softened as she continued. "We can talk about it, you know?"

My gaze jerked up and Carmen's green eyes were clouded with sadness. "I kinda miss you coming to me when you're feeling down. I thought we were chill about that stuff."

"But you loved him...," my voice trailed off in a whisper.

Carmen's gaze sharpened. "Lana. After what he did to you...you really think I give a damn about him or my feelings for him?"

I didn't answer that because we both knew she loved him. Despite how she felt now, she did love him once. That could never change.

"Do you think you'll ever get over him?" I asked, instead.

"Will you?"

"I asked first."

Carmen sighed and leaned back in her seat, quietly murmuring, "No. No, I don't think I will."

"Me neither," I mumbled, clenching my fists so hard I felt nails dig into my skin.

"Eight months, Lee. In eight fucking months The Sirens gave him our friendship and he destroyed it all in one night."

"He just wanted revenge."

Carmen protected her heart by not caring about anything. Expect for The Sirens and once about Carlos though. I guess that's why it hurt so much when she did care.

Before uncomfortable silence fell in the air between us, Carmen was quick to move on to another subject. Relief rushed through me like adrenaline.

After Kiana served us our milkshakes and left, Carmen met my gaze. "Will you come to my race tomorrow at the Laker?"

This was how Carmen and I loved each other. I went to her races and she came to my apartment to take naps with me in my bed.

"Okay."

"Awesome."

"So onto some serious stuff," she began after sipping her milkshake.

Oh, fuck.

"You look depressed than usual nowadays, and you've been forgetting shit. The girls are noticing it too."

"I'm fine," I muttered.

Brows raised, she tilted her head sideways. "Lana. Seriously?"

"I'm just tired. I'll be fine in a few days," I assured, cupping the milkshake glass between my palms.

"Okay, but just come to us. Talk about it. It always makes you feel a little better. A little is better than nothing right?

I nodded. "Yeah."

She smiled. "Okay. Next subject. Everett Weston."

I shrugged. "He's fine."

"Fine as in...?"

"Friendly, polite, innocent. According to my calculations, he'll most likely get kidnapped in a few days by Arjun."

Carmen laughed. "Oh yeah? Come to think of it, it is fucking weird that Arjun still hasn't made a move yet. He's probably up to something. Whatever it is, the easter bunny is definitely getting his ass beaten up sooner or later."
