I had my things moved in no time.
By lunch, I had already called all my clients and my reports were on my spreadsheet.
I gave a quick wave to Lucy who returned my greeting before returning back to her files.
The warm sun contrasting against the temperature of the air conditioned on my skin felt like paradise.
I decided to play some music. I needed a pick me up.
"Watermelon sugar high. Watermelon sugar. Strawberries. On a summer evening." I cheerfully sang the lyrics as I made my way to the courthouse.
I grinned even more as another one of my favorites blasted through my car's speakers.
By the time I got to the courthouse and found Pablo's car which he was leaning against I was in bright spirits.
Pablo wasted no time opening up the passenger door and getting in.
He gave me a silly look before he turned serious.
"Before we go in, I want to talk to you. I've already filled out the paperwork for you, all you need to do is sign. Before you do that we need to get the divorce papers notarized, then we need to get it filed with the court." He said systematically.
I looked at him astounded. "Thank you Pablo. For everything." I said gratefully. I was lucky to have friends and family that'll be there.
"No need to thank me. We'll get three copies of the filed petition, one for you, one for me, and the last will go to Matthew." His voice getting harsh at the mention of Him. "Are you sure you want to be the one to give them to him? I'll do it if you don't want to."
"Pablo, it's fine." I assured him. "I need to get the rest of my things so it makes sense for me to do it."
He sighed before saying "If you change your mind, just tell me."
"You'll be the first to know." I said with a small smile.
"I don't want to discourage you but this will likely happen and I want you to be aware of it when it does so it isn't surprise. You said it yourself Vanessa. Matthew isn't going to let you go so easily.
When Matthew files his counter petition and believe me he will, it'll be full of demands. He'll attempt to slow things down so it'll be harder for you to get a divorce." He said knowledgeably.
"I know he'll play dirty Pablo that's why we need to be ready. I need to be ready." I was determined to be free again. "I'm ready to get this over with."
"I thought you'd never ask."
The process didn't take long at all.
We brought the paperwork to the notary in the filing office, who looked over the paperwork carefully before stamping it.
Instead freezing at the words "Petition for Dissolution of Marriage" boldly written at the top of the papers, it encouraged me to eagerly grab the pen from the notary and sign it without a second thought.
We then went to the clerks office to get the divorce papers filed. The clerk seemed to know Pablo and wasted no time in filing the papers. She didn't have a problem in printing the extra copies I needed.
Pablo took his copy,
I was surprised to see that the whole process took less than 45 minutes.
Pablo took his copy, and I was left with the other two which went to myself and Matthew.
All I needed to do now was give Matthew his copy of the divorce papers and my process of getting divorced would officially begin.
I walked out the courthouse with a big grin on my face.
