"katsukiiii." y/n's voice chirped from the other side of the phone, her voice sounding like music to his ears as he dragged his feet across the dry ground. he got rid of his tears a long time ago.

"hey."

"katsuki, what's wrong?"

"nothing. i'm fucking peachy. i called just to hear your voice, that's all."

"i thought we were past lying, katsuki." she spoke with a pout. "is it izu-kun?" he stayed silent which ironically gave her the answer she was looking for.

since they were kids she'd always been able to read his voice. and since she's been by his side, she learned his triggers and weaknesses as well. even when she was unaware of the extent katsuki tormented izuku, she knew he had feelings of inferiority and hostility towards him. she sighed, he knew she wouldn't let it go but she hoped he would.

"look, babe. i don't know how izu-kun got into u.a, but he did. and i'm proud of him. it was always your guys' dream. you can't be upset at him for making it come true no matter how unattainable it seemed. we'll talk more when i can see you in person, okay? it's fine if you don't want to say anything right now."

"fuck, it's not just that!" he kicked a pebble down the sidewalk. "that fucking nerd has a quirk now too. he must've been fucking hiding it from us! that bastard."

y/n stopped mid-step as soon as his words registered in her mind. izuku has a quirk? tha-but how?!

"you're-you're not-izu-kun has a quirk?"

"yeah that little fuckface said he got it from someone else! can you fucking believe that bull?"

"ah-i...but izuku would've told me..."

"you should probably talk to him or something. and don't say anything stupid. i only bear his dumb shit because you do."

"yeah..ugh." her lip trembled. "can i sleep over today?"

"course. take your time, dumbass. i'll tell the hag to make food for you."

"thanks katsuki...i love you."

"me too, lardass."

she laughed softly and hung up, only to text izuku.

izuku with a quirk? katsuki said something about it on the first day of school but really? there's no way. she always loved and supported him like a brother, and she knew he would try his hardest to achieve his dream of becoming a hero against the odds. but a quirk? he would have told her. he would have said something to her, right? or was that just her selfish thinking? maybe he didn't owe her anything. maybe it was all a smoke screen and she was stupid to think he would have told her. because katsuki wouldn't lie like that.
