Yukhei, Ten and I started running down the dark underground tunnels as if our lives depended on it, which actually wasn't that far from the actual truth anyway. All of us knew that, if the guards somehow managed to catch us, we'd either be terribly punished or dead, and I didn't want to wait and see which one would actually happen.
At one point, I accidentally tripped, painfully landing on all fours and tearing the lime colored jail uniform on my knees.
"Shit!" I cursed out loud, feeling something wet and slimy on my hands and also feeling a burning pain from scratching my knees.
Yukhei and Ten immediately grabbed me by each arm in order to help me get up without saying anything, but even in this half-darkness, I could feel what their looks were telling me – hurry up, Leiyu, or you're going back to that cell.
Therefore, I just wiped my hands on my uniform and continued running even though I felt as if my body was going to betray me any second. Luckily for me, it wasn't long enough after the two guys stopped, pointing at one ladder similar to the one that we used to climb down here and escape the Neo island prison.
"This is the place." Yukhei said. "This is where we get out."
Ten nodded, confirming his statement.
"Just keep in mind that you are still an escapee, so you have to be as fast as possible even when we get out of this sewer. I'll go first, and as soon as you get out, you'll have to follow me if you want to survive."
"I'll try." I said, not really knowing what would wait for us once we would step in the outside world.
After being held in captivity for so long, I pretty much forgot how most of the Neo island looked like.
Ten nodded, jumping onto the ladder and climbing skillfully like a cat would climb a tree when being chased by a bunch of rabid dogs. When he got to the top, he opened the manhole, squeezing trough it with ease.
As soon as his body disappeared, I heard some angry voices yelling from a direction we came from.
"The guards must've figured out how we escaped." Yukhei said, gritting his teeth, and lifting me up without any warning. "Come on, you're next. Just be quick."
I immediately obeyed, climbing the ladder as fast as I could.
When I got out, I had to turn around to find Ten standing a few meters away from me. From what I could see, we were still under ground, in some kind of a souterrain parking lot. He gave me a sign to follow him, and I did, hearing Yukhei's footsteps not so far behind me.
Thankfully, we only had to run for about a minute before we found what we were looking for – a red racing car and a red motorcycle standing next to each other.
"You two get in the car, Yangyang will take you to the others." Yukhei said, hopping on the motorcycle.
"Are you sure you'll be okay?" Ten asked, which just caused Yukhei to grin.
"Please. By now, this motorcycle has become a part of me." He said. "Besides, I'll be right behind you."
Ten just nodded, signaling me to enter the car and sit on the back seat, while he was taking a seat in the passenger's one.
When the doors finally closed, I heard the voice of the driver.
"Did everything go well?"
"Yes." Ten said. "Now start driving, the guards can catch up with us any second."
The mysterious driver just smirked, looking at the car's mirror, almost as if he knew that I used it to check him out. When our eyes met, I realised that he wasn't much older than me. In fact, he even looked younger.
"With pleasure." He said, turning the engine on. Within seconds, he started drifting between the vehicles on the parking lot with ease, although I couldn't help but flinch every time we would get close to one.
"Don't worry, he knows what he's doing." Ten said assuringly, turning to look at me. "Also, I assume you would like to get some answers."
"You have no idea." I said, confirming his assumption.
"I see. Well, first of all, I think we should introduce ourselves. I'll start with me – my name is Chittaphon Leechaiyapornkul."
"What?" I asked, not being sure if I heard him correctly.
"Exactly." Ten chucked. "That's a pretty long name. That's why I prefer to be called by my nickname Ten."
I nodded, so he continued.
"The tall guy who's riding a motorcycle is called Yukhei. He was responsible for the outbreak in the East wing of the jail, helping me get you out. And this–" He pointed to the guy who was driving our car. "This is Yangyang."
Up until now, I have been blindly following them only because I knew they were my only chance of ever escaping from the prison. But now, as my thoughts were starting to get clear again, I couldn't help but wonder who they actually were and what they wanted from me.
"Well, nice to meet you, I guess, but there are many other things that confuse me here. For instance, how do you even know my name?"
Ten just laughed when he heard my question, which made a bit angry.
"No offense, but do you really think we would risk our lives like that just to pay a visit to the most dangerous prison on the whole island and rescue some random person?" He asked.
"I–" I didn't know what to say. "...If that's the case, then why am I here?"
Ten was just about to open his mouth to say something, when a fourth, unknown voice suddenly said something. Since there was only the three of us in the car, I assumed that voice was heard trough a communication device of some kind.
"Guys, the footage from my drone says that the guards are following you. You have to get rid of them, Yangyang." The deep voice said.
"Got it, Sicheng." Yangyang said, raising one hand from the wheel. "Sorry, but I'm going to need the two of you to shut up now, so I can focus. Also, make sure to fasten your seatbelts."
I managed to do so in the very last second, just in time for him to speed up in an unimaginable speed, making me hold onto Ten's seat in front of me as if my life depended on it.
Since I haven't been driven by a car in ages, I forgot how uncomfortable it could be sometimes, despite Yangyang being a pretty good driver.
Ten noticed my state, so he took something out of the car's drawer and handed it to me.
"Take it." He said, offering me a brown paper bag. "This is going to be a tough ride, so you can use this if you need to vomit."
Then a smirk appeared on his face.
"Don't worry, it happens to the best of us. It's just a side effect of Yangyang's amazing driving skills."
"Shut your jealous mouth up, Chittaphon, or you're going to get kicked out as a present for those guards." Yangyang growled at Ten's sarcastic remark, speeding up even more.
At that moment, I felt my stomach turn around, singlaing me that I might actually need to use that bag which Ten gave me.
The last thing I saw before diving my head in it was The Empathy tower, the biggest building on the whole island.
And on the top of it, a huge letter V.
