I was walking home from school with Jaime.
"Hey bud," I said.
"Do you think snails have brains?" He stopped and looked down at a snail.
"Well, yeah... How else are the supposed to know how to crawl into little boys beds and eat flesh?"
Jaime looked up at my with ginormous eyes, "Whaa...?"
"Run!"
Both Jaime and I ran home laughing. He closed the door and we both fell on the ground out of breathe.
"Jaime, Kara! Come over here!"
We stood up and walked to the kitchen table, "yes mom?" I asked.
She was crying, "pack your things."
"What?" Jaime asked.
"Jaime pack your things! We're moving!"
Jaime ran upstairs.
"What's going on mom?"
"Jaime is going to be so sad so don't tell him this, me and dad are splitting ways."
I lowered my voice, "why?"
"When I came home today, I thought someone broke in because I thought dad was at work," she paused, "he cheated on me."
I hugged my mom, "I'm so sorry."
"I'm fine, but I don't know what we're gonna tell Jaime."
"I'll handle it."
She touched my shoulder, and I walked upstairs into Jaime's room.
"Hey Jaime."
"Why we we leaving?"
"Well mommy and daddy are having trouble, so mommy needs to stay in another house from him for a while."
"What happened?"
"Well, daddy did something wrong."
Jaime looked down at his suitcase, "okay."
I saw a tear stream down his face, he never liked it when people knew when he was crying. I ran my fingers through his knotted, long, brown hair, "it'll be alright Jaime."
I walked to my room and started packing my stuff. I picked up my picture of my boyfriend and I.
I texted him, I need to talk to you, Pizza Hut tonight?
He responded immediately, you hate my Pizza Hut and you know that's my favorite, what's going on?
I didn't respond, but I did check on Jaime, then I left.
About an hour later I met Andrew at Pizza Hut.
"What the fuck is going on?" He said with huge eyes. He never cusses unless he feels like he has to. "Who do I need to punch."
"I'm moving."
"Where?"
"I don't know yet, but we're leaving tonight."
"I'm coming with you."
"No you're not."
"Yes I am."
"Look I have to go, my moms probably worried."
"I'm never leaving you."
I explained to him everything that happened as he walked me home. He was texting someone while walking me.
When I reached my house, he walked inside. My mother waved to him, "Hey Andrew."
"You expect me to hut let the love of my life leave me? I hope you don't mind me living with you."
"Andrew we all love you, you can come over anytime."
"No, I'm living with you guys, I'll even pay rent if I have to."
"Is your mom okay with that?"
"Yes," he handed his phone to my mom, "how much a month?"
"Oh honey, you can stay with us and you don't have to pay rent, we have a summer house that we're gonna stay at and it has plenty of room."
"Thank you Mrs. Carline."
I saw my mom wince when he said that. He went home to pack his stuff and I checked on Jaime.
"Jaime," I nudged him, "wake up Jaime."
His eyes opened and I saw they were puffy and red. "We're you rubbing your eyes again? You know you have sensitive eyes!"
"Sorry..."
When Andrew got back, we all squished ourselves in the car and took the three hour drive to our new home.
