The girl was walking back to her dorm room from the library like she did every night - minding her own business and keeping to herself - after studying or reading in peace. Usually she had a friend with her, or her roommate so that she wasn't alone. But everyone else was either asleep or doing their own thing that she didn't want to be a part of.
So, she was walking alone. Most of the path was lit by the street lights installed early last year because of the old ones that were being destroyed. There was one place in her path that wasn't lit with light, and she knew this. She knew that she should have stayed on the path that let her see what was around her instead of going the back way into her dorm building.
Fear was creeping up her spine as she made her was around the back of the buildings to the fire exit that her friends would leave open for her.
Who cares if she got caught tonight? Let the cameras see her walking back late, she can tell them she was just studying. They could check the library cameras to prove it, but she knew it was too late to do that know.
She was away from the light and too far into the darkness to just leave again.
The fear didn't leave. Tonight was different to other times she had come back. She could feel someone watching her, waiting to pounce like a lion on its prey.
Suddenly, she took a sharp intake of breath as she made it towards the door. A sigh of relief left her as her hand placed itself on the door handle to pull it open.
She pulled on the door and a hand slapped over her mouth. Instinctively, she screamed into the hand as it pulled her backwards, away from the door. Her hands gripped onto the handle, trying to keep herself in place, but she wasn't strong enough.
Her arms flailed everywhere as she was dragged backwards. She hit the person behind, struggling to get out of their grasp, but they were stronger and she couldn't do anything. She couldn't even scream for help as the hand was placed over her mouth.
She was dragged through the woods behind the dorms and towards the alley way that only the students knew about. They used it to sneak out into the village during the week for shopping, for meals, for a better time than what they were stuck to inside the walls of the academy.
The person stopped dragging her when they reached it; they didn't go any further than the alley.
"Please don't kill me," she cried. She didn't even realise she was crying, but now she could only feel the tears streaming down her face and down her neck.
"It's a little too late to be making requests, darling," a mans voice replied. It was deep and groggy, like he had just woken up, or hadn't had a drink in days.
A punch hit the girl square across the jaw and she let out a whimper.
The man wasn't bothered in beating her up anymore, or making her suffer. He just wanted this to be over with so he could leave.
Another hit to her face and a kick to her stomach. She groaned loudly at the contact made, but quickly got over herself. She was still crying. Her face, no doubt, was red and puffy whilst her top was wet from her tears.
The man reached into his pocket and pulled out a gun, but put it back last minute as if deciding that it would make too much noise. He reached back into his pocket and pulled out a knife.
She could hardly see it from the lack of light, but she could make out what it was.
The blade ran across her bicep, drawing blood. It wasn't a deep cut, not like the one on her stomach. She screamed as he dug the knife in and dragged it across. Cried as he pulled it out again.
She remembered that only moments ago she has begged to be spared, but now she only wanted him to get it over with. She didn't want to suffer this pain anymore.
The man, as if understanding her cries, carried the knife up to her throat and cut the trachea as well as damaging the carotid artery and the jugular vein. She was dead in moments with a scream of pain or cry for help.
He watched as blood squirted from her throat before leaving. Making sure that she was dead in the alley and walking away from the body of an innocent young girl.
