Victoria

"How many patients left before lunch time?"

I was zoning out when I heard my professor talking to me. Bumalik agad ako sa realidad and immediately checked my chart and replied, "Isa nalang po, Doc. Tatawagin ko na po."

Dr. Chua just gave me a quick nod as she stretched both of her hands up in the air.

"Ms. Sarmiento? Is she around?" Tanong ko nung lumabas ako to check the waiting area of the OB-gyn department.

"I'm here! Is it finally my turn?" She asked as I saw her held on to her back, trying to ease the pain she is feeling.

No way.

I tried to blink harder to make sure if I was seeing the person whom I have hated years ago.

"Victoria? Ikaw ba 'yan? Wow. How long has it been?" I still could not believe it. I tried to form the right words but I felt like my tongue got tied up. Ang raming pumapasok sa isip ko na mga posibilidad but I tried my very best to shrug it away. Sino ba ang ama nitong batang dinadala niya?

I nodded and gave her a suppressed smile. "Sorry if you had to wait, Ma'am. Medyo marami ang patients ni Doc ngayon,"

I did not want to ask this question but I had to dahil required na tanungin to complete the patient's chart.

"Are you having your prenatal check-up alone or you are with somebody?"

I tried to act professional in front of her. I don't know but I felt scared of whatever her answer will be. Maybe, kahit ilang taon ng lumipas, the trauma is still there.

She chuckled. How could she laugh nonchalantly considering the damage they have done to me?

"He's running late. But I think nasa baba na siya. So, shall we?" She motioned both of her hands towards the door and I immediately opened and invited her inside. She gave me a sweet smile and mouthed 'thank you' as she entered.

Her smile sent shivers down my spine. I did not like her smile. I did not know she still has this effect in me.

"Ms. Sarmiento! What a delight to see you today," Dr. Chua gladly welcomed her inside the room. "One week left before your due. Are you excited?"

She nodded, "By the way, saan yung gwapo 'mong kasama dati?"

Elisse was about to answer when someone knocked. I guess yan na 'yung asawa niya.

"Sorry, I'm late." He was rushing inside and was catching his breath.

It was him.

I examined him very well because it has been so long since I last saw him. His hair was in a classic pompadour haircut. He was wearing a long-sleeved white polo which had three buttons unbuttoned, revealing his chest. Khaki fitted pants which emphasized his legs really well and dark brown boat shoes. He was carrying both his suitcase and coat in his right arm.
