"What is it Newt?" Someone from above asked; it now just occurred to me that all of the voices belonged to male counterparts. Averting my eyes from the blonde, I peered up shyly, noticing the opening is surrounded only by those of the male species. Now, this was anything but lucky.
"It's a girl?" The doe-eyed boy said curiously, the words escaping his lips in a soft tone, coated with a thick accent. The crowd above erupted into scattered whispers, comments being shared amongst one another in anticipation. I stared back at the boy with wide eyes, my chest heaving with anticipation. I felt too scared to move, and I squeezed my legs closer to my chest as if forming a shield. He continued to stare at me quizzically, as if studying my features, along with the situation. His eyes expressed a thousand thoughts running through his mind as they glazed over many inner emotions before he furrowed his eyebrows slightly as if he was now the one that was confused.
His hand slowly extended, palm up, moving gently as he offered me his hand. Another boy then jumped down, almost landing on top of the scrawny one.
He had short blond hair, high eyebrows, and a nose that was dotted in freckles; his blank expression looked like a mix between anger and constipation, and honestly, I couldn't tell which was more prominent of the two.
The freckled boy smirked down at me, "Although this is certainly unconventional because you're a chick, might as well introduce you to the glade just like everyone else."
My eyebrows furrowed at the word glade. The fuck is a glade.
"Day one greenie." He reached out, grabbing a hold of the collar of my shirt, "Rise and shine." He pulled me up forcefully, and I began to inwardly panic.
I wanted to scream but I was too afraid to say anything.
"Hey now- be gentle mate-"
He lifted me up out of the crate, and as soon as he put me down on the grass above, my body got a sudden burst of adrenaline; my fight or flight mode kicked in. I stood up as fast as I could and ran, scrambling as my shoes barely gripped the summer grass.
I ran not knowing where to go, and I found myself heading towards a forest. I ran past the trees, leaves swatting my arms and legs, branches hitting my face- but I didn't care.
My eyes landed on a big tree, and I quickly grabbed the trunk, pulling myself up into the arms of the oak warrior.
All the boys yelled after me, their voices were closer with each second.
"Hey!"
"Girly!"
"Where'd ya go?"
Eventually, the mass surrounded the bottom of the tree.
"HEY GREENIE. COME DOWN!" I heard the guy with freckles say. I shook my head and ascended further up the tree, my legs beginning to feel like jelly. A branch snapped under my foot and it fell, knocking onto someone's head.
"OW!" I heard a scream. I then began snapping more dead branches down and there was a monotonous tone of ow's, ouches, and stops.
"STOP STOP STOP! DONT THROW ANYTHING ELSE! PLEASE!" I heard the accent of the boy that I first saw when the crate opened up.
I peered down at him. I appreciated that he used some manners.
"Look, could you come down? I'll explain everything to you, alright? Just calm down." I heard the crunching of leaves as he approached the base of the tree. "We won't hurt you, I promise."
I shook my head in disagreement, clinging onto the trunk like my life depended on it; which at that moment, it really felt like it did.
The blonde also shook his head, "fine, but I bloody suck ass at climbing."
