I couldn't do anything. My friends were dying in front of me and I couldn't do anything.

"I give up..." I whispered as I fell to the floor. "I can't win, no one can." I let the tears fall no longer caring.

Irish and my sister held hands looking in their eyes, not blinking. They were gone.

I was frozen.

The same man who had shot Zander before was now in a white suit. He looked at me then at Zander. He walked over to him grabbed his hair and lifted his head. The man looked me dead in the eyes and shot Zander sending blood and brains everywhere.

"I give up."

The man walked over to me, his white suit now covered the blood of my best friend. "Good, because this was getting really boring," he pointed the gun at my head. I heard the trigger click and was finally ready for death.

Nothing happened.

I jolted awake. I was sitting at the table with Zander. He was fine. Kat and Irish were standing at the door waiting for us.

"You good there bud?" Zander asked holding is hand out for me to take. He had a peaceful look in his eyes.

"Yeah," I whispered as I took his hand. I stood up. Everything felt normal. Everything looked normal.

Irish, Kat, Lea, and Michael were all joking as Zander and I walked out of the room. Michael threw his arm around Zanders shoulders as we walked out the building. Irish had his arm around Kats back. Leah was talking to some lady I had never seen before, but they looked happy. I stopped for a moment looking at my friends. This was better than any program simulation. I smiled and ran to catch up to them but bumped into a man knocking the tray out of his arms.

"Oh I'm sorry," I said bending down to help him pick the needles up.

He smiled, "Its no problem Ms. Ryder." He looked me in my eye.  His cold dark eyes gave me chills.

I stood up after grabbing the last needle. " Its no problem," I smiled at him. I walked towards Zander who had waited for me. I took his hand and we walked out the door into the vast nothingness that had become our "lives" as part of The Program.
