Chapter Twelve: Teddy Bears Can be Scary
Dave's POV
I ignored the human and her whatever plans as she fled the scene, instead choosing to focus on my annoying boss as he handed over a humongous pile of papers to me.
I sighed and snatched it from him, scowling at the pages that would most likely bring about my doom. I felt dismayed as I flipped through the pages, "This is bullshit," I grunted out.
"This is important," He corrected, running a hand through his hair and making it even messier, "We gotta keep track of progress. I'll help you fill it out this time, but for the rest of the assignments you'll be on your own."
I groaned, "There will be more?"
"Two reports for every summon--"
I groaned again, much louder than the last time. I moved over to Mary's room and plopped down on the chair she was in earlier, choosing to get away from both her burned-to-all-fuck wall and my annoying boss.
Luke simply followed me, continuing what he was saying, "One at the beginning of a summon and one at the end. Just some simple questions you have to fill out." he sighed, "Nothing crazy."
"This is a murder attempt," I hissed at him, but looked down at the pile of papers in my hand, briefing over the questions I'd have to answer.
What was the final deal made with the summoner?
What part of this summoning is the most exciting?
What part is the least exciting?
Name three interesting facts about yourself!
Is there anything you would like me to know before the school year starts?
"What? School year?" I looked up at Luke, flashing him the page.
"Oh, I stole most of the questions from some highschool teacher's beginning-of-the-year icebreaker sheets and shit. Some of the questions might be a little wonky. I still expect them all to be answered by tomorrow."
"This question literally just says 'Why?'"
Luke shrugged, "That's a good question." I scoffed at his answer, looking through the questions with a sense of dread. He smiled at my misery, "Well, it's been good seeing ya, but I'm afraid I've got to skadoodle," he said, pointing a thumb at Mary's bedroom door. The second he did, a portal opened where the door used to be.
All of Mary's doors are just going through a lot today.
I whistled, "You can open the portal just by pointing?"
Luke looked confused and glanced back at the portal, "What?" He asked, "No, I didn't open that."
Before either of us could express our concern for who did outwardly, a blur shot out of the portal. From a quick glance, it was easy to tell who it was:
The slicked-back hair remained perfect, even as it was being hurled through the air. His tux was flawlessly ironed and fit perfectly, seeming unaffected by movement. Even the way he flew through the air was almost elegant.
Well, up until the figure smacked into Mary's bed and all but disappeared.
"Where'd he go?" I asked Luke nervously, staring at the spot the man had disappeared to.
"Do not glance over me as if I am not here," The familiar voice boomed, "You will find that pretending I don't will not delay your demise." Suddenly, a little teddy bear from the bed sprung up. It waddled over the bedspread, making its way across the bed in a malicious, terrifying manner, "Oh, Dave Dave Dave... When I caught wind of you escaping from prison, I just knew I had to track you down." The teddy bear hissed, narrowing its eyes with an evil smirk.
