As the last notes of o the song ended, applause rang throughout the hall. I smiled, satisfied with my performance. The audience slowly trickled out, and we packed up our supplies. I drove Batty home, as was our tradition. Once, a few years ago, we had gone out on a date, but it had ended so badly that we gave up any hope of a romantic relationship. I won't say how badly the date went, but I will say that both of us went to bed that night with our personal mottos on our lips. Musica anima mea est. To me, Batty was like a little sister and the little sister of Skye. I don't love Skye anymore, I often question if I ever did, but it's hard to look at Batty without comparing her to Skye just a little.

"What are you thinking about?" She asked softly, interrupting my thoughts.

"Nothing." Was my reply. She shot me a suspecting glance, but I ignored it.

"You're never this quiet after a show. What's wrong?"

"Nothing, I'm fine, really Battikins." In truth, I was thinking about that night. Watching Batty preform, I had felt a sort of flutter in the pit of my stomach. I wanted to investigate it further but I was afraid of what I might find. We pulled up to Batty's apartment complex, but I didn't turn off the car.

"Jeffery? What's the matter?"

"I just remembered that it's Thursday." Every Thursday, Batty and I went to my apartment and worked on the finances and appointments for the band. We had started it and considered ourselves responsible for the technical aspects.

"Oh, shoot! That's right!"

"Do you want me to just drop you off, and we can do it tomorrow?"

"No, it's fine. Let's go." I pulled out and drove to my own complex, just a few miles away. Once inside, I threw a pizza in the oven and sat down on the couch. Batty had pulled out her computer and planner and was already typing furiously.

"We have a proposal to preform in Fredrick Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids Michigan in two months. We'll be the preceding band to Micheal Fronte and Spearhead, whoever they are." (A/N: Their music is amazing, you should listen to it. Especially "The Flower")

"Say yes, if we're open then."

"We are."

"I'll text the band, hang on." This was how most of our meetings went. Minimal talk, and zero socializing. We used to have fun, but after that one date, the air had a bit of frostiness to it. We were still friends, but not like we used to be. We had lost that closeness. I missed it terribly.

Later in the evening, after the pizza was gone and appointments had been made, I drove Batty back to her apartment.

"Bye Jeffery." She said quietly.

"See you later." I said, giving a small wave as she left the car. Driving back to my own place yet again, I unlocked the door and was greeted by a flurry of barking. Scout and Tracy, my two dachshunds, must have woken up while I was gone. "Hey guys. Miss me?" They barked in response, licking my face. I laughed, succumbing to puppy love. I needed it.
