mimosas pt. ii

i stood by their mimosa trees today

they weren't home

the yard was empty

they fell

and

the leaves closed

as the sun sunk down

leaving me a shadow

in the open field

so

i tucked a stray one behind my ear

and rode away

in the darkness

i went back to the mimosa trees today

i couldn't make it there on my bike

so i went in my car instead

it seemed as if

that since i've gone

all the trees have died

so

i found a new flower

purple roses

and not only did i tuck one behind my ear

but i let them litter the dashboard

as i drove away

into the sunrise
