Please, never start off your story using a cliché such as "I groaned as the annoying sound of my alarm clock woke me up...". WAY too cliché for a lot of people, trust me when I say that people avoid these books. Try to be original, readers want to be entranced by your first sentence not go "oh great, another one of these stories". If the first sentence is interesting then people will look forward to the rest of the book.
