Make your characters believable. No one wants to read about little miss perfect who thinks she's as ugly as hell. No one I'm telling you will read that story, give your characters some flaws. Physical, mental, personality wise. Make them human.
And if they aren't human still give them a few flaws because otherwise your story WILL be boring.
