A marriage of convenience

Sana: Aa jaa yaar, muje teri zarurat hai.
Shefali: Thek hai mai flight ka dekhti hu. Aati hu. Tu pareshaan na ho. Dekh jo ho gaya vo thek he hai. Zoro ko uske papa ke zarurat hai. Rahi shaadi ke baat ab aage ka muje nhi pata. But it is the need of the hour.
Sana: Hmmm. Thek hai. Tu call kar mai Amritsar gaadi bhejti hu.
Shefali: Thek hai.
     It was Zoro's lunch time. He was with his dad all morning. It was as if there were making up for the lost time. She went in search of them. Sana went to his room and saw them playing and laughing together. She stood in the doorway
Sana: Zoro aapka lunch time ho gaya hai. Chalo lunch karte hai.
Zoro: Papa kya aap muje lunch karvaoge??
Sid: Ha. Chalo aaj papa lunch karvaati hai aapko.
Zoro: Maa aaj papa lunch karva rahe hai muje
Sana: Thek hai. Aa jao table pe.
      Sid and Zoro were waiting on the table. Sana brought the food
Sana: Pura finish karvaana.
Sid: (angrily) Muje pata hai. Don't give me instructions.
Sana: Zoro. Baby aapne hand wash nhi kiya. Jaao kar ke aao
Zoro: Theķ hai Maa.
Sana: ( After zoro leaves,looking at Sid) Next time mere bete ke saamne mujse aise baat mat karna. Ho gayi galti nhi bataya tumhe. Kar rahi hu na jo tum chaho ab.
Sid: Agar Maa na bolti to tum kabhi na batati. Tumne..
    Zoro enters the dining hall and they both go quiet. Sana's mom enters the dining hall
Sana's mom: Mai kab se dund rahi hu tumko. Vo mehendi wali aayegi. Mehendi lagani hai tumko.
Sana: Muje koi mehendi nhi lagani hai mummy. Tamasha laga rakha hai. Aur Zoro lunch finish karke room me aao. Tumhe sula du. Morning jaldi uthe ho tum.
    Sana left the room. Zoro finished his lunch and went to his room for the afternoon nap. Sid was in his room. Sid knew Sana was not at all intrested in marrying him. He too wanted this marriage for Zoro's sake. But her not interested attitude had upset him. He called vikas and told him everything. Vikas didn't react much as he knew it would instigate Sid's anger.  He told him to calm down. Sid asked him to come with his mother and sisters the next day. Vikas agreed to it. Vikas was also upset with Sana. He will definitely speak to her when he meets her. The lunch in the Gill's house was a strained one. Sid and Sana didn't speak much. Evening past with Sana applying mehendi and Sid giving all his attention and time to his son.
    Maa, Sid's sisters and vikas arrived in the morning. Shefali has come the previous evening. They were warmly welcomed by the Gill family. Sana also came out and stood on one side. Sid came out with Zoro in his arms. He came in front of Maa. Maa had tears in her eyes when she saw her son with his son  
Sid: Zoro yeh aapke dadi hai.
Zoro: (looking at his dad) Dadi??
Sid: Yeh aapke papa ke Maa hai.
Maa: Sach yeh bilkul tere jaisa hai.
    They both had tears in their eyes. Maa took him in his arms and Zoro willingly went. Zoro met his two aunts too and his vikas uncle. They all went inside.
    The marriage was in the evening. Sana was all ready. Maa has bought her lehenga from Mumbai. She was sitting in her room. There was a knock on the door and she saw Maa standing in the doorway.
Sana: Maa. Aaye na ander.
    Maa went inside and sat next to Sana. She took Sana's both hand. Sana started crying. It was as if a dam has burst open. She hugged Maa tightly and cried like a baby. Maa wiped her tears
Maa: Chup ho jaa. Mat ro. Mai samaj sakti hu tere pareshaani. Par mere tarif se befikar ho jaa. Mai hu tere sath, aur hamesha rahungi.
Sana: Thank you Maa.  Thank you.
Maa: Zoro bahot pyaara hai.
Sana: Hmm. Aap pe aur Siddharth pe gaya hai. Mujpe to zara bhi nhi gaya.
    They both laughed like old times. This woman was so loving. She felt a bit relaxed now. Shefali came in.
Shefali : Chal panditji bula rahe hai. Aunty aap bhi aaye.
     The rituals have almost finished. Sid didn't even look at her. It felt all automatic with no feelings in them. This was all for Zoro, she reminded herself. But still, it hurts. The happiest among all was Zoro. He was cheerful and happy to see his mom and dad in bridal dress. He too was wearing a shervani and looked handsome like his dad. Dinner was served and the functions were over. Vikas and Sid's sister were talking about something. Sid went to them.
Sìd: Kya hua.
Vikas: Vo hum sooch rahe the tum dono ko hotel bheje aaj raat ko
Sid: Ek minute. Don't you dare think about it. Yeh shaadi sirf Zoro ke leye hai. Aur kuch nhi.
    Maa came there at that moment.
Maa: Kya hua??
Sid: Aap logo ko jo rishte nibhane hai nibha lo. Mere leye vo sirf mere bacche ke Maa hai. Aur yeh sab drama ab ho gaya na??
Maa: Siddharth aise thodi hota hai. Humko apne ghar bhi to puja karni padegi.  Karibi Rishtedaaro ko to batana padega na. Muje sab ko jawab dena padega.
Sid's sister: Sid aise thodi hota hai. Ab shaadi ki hai to sab rituals to pure karne padenge na.
    Sana was sitting with shefali. Sid's mom called her and made them sit with her. Sid didn't look at her.
Maa: Kitni pyari lag rahi hai.
Sid's sister: Ha bahot pyari.
    They both started talking to sana. Night fell. They all went to their rooms to rest as they had an early flight in the morning.  Sid also went to his room. Sana took Zoro to sleep. Her baby slept in her arms. She was feeling restless. She went out for some fresh air. Vikas was sitting on the steps of the veranda. She went and sat next to him. He smiled.
Vikas: Zoro so gaya??
Sana: Haa
Vikas: Tum nhi soyi
Sana: Neend nhi aa rahi hai. Guttan ho rahi hai. Isleye bahar aa gayi. Tum mujse naaraz ho??
Vikas: Haa. Char saal Sana. Tumne muje bhi nhi bataya. Agar muje itna bura lag raha hai to usse kaise lag raha hoga.
Sana: Vikas sab mujpe blame daal rahe hai. Kisine mere baare me soocha?? Usne bola tha ke usse nhi chahiye baccha. Vo kabhi future ke baare me baat nhi karta tha. Kabhi shaadi ke baare me nhi bolta tha. Use bacche distractions lagte the. Ab mai pregnant ho gayi. Mai kya karti bol. Tumko kya lagta hai yeh mere leye aasaan tha. Mere pregnancy and delivery me kya kya hua yeh tum koi nhi jaante. Sab ne bas faisla suna diya ke Sana galat hai.
    Sid was standing behind hearing all this
Sid: Ha tum galat he thi. Vikas usko bolo isko koi haq nhi tha mere leye faisla lene ka
    Sana turned and started walking towards the house. She didn't wanted to argue with him. It's been a long day and she was having a headache
Sid: Aur vikas isse yeh bhi bol do ke yeh har jagah jaake  sympathy le. Par mere leye yeh hamesha galat he rahegi.
Vikas: Sid tu bhi thoda samajne ke koshish kar.
Sid: Tu muje samjne bol raha hai??
Vikas:  Mai bas yahi bol raha hu tum dono ki ab shaadi ho gayi hai.  Yeh aise...
Sid: Hum dono ki shaadi sirf aur sirf Zoro ke leye hai. Baaki sab dekhava hoga.
Vikas: Jo bhi hai, par ab media ko ek statement dena padega na. Tum dono celebs ho. Tum dono ki shaadi ke baare me Zoro ke baare me bataana padega.
Sid: Ha thek hai. Vikas tum kal media me hum dono ki shaadi ka official statement de do
Vikas: Aur Zoro??
Sid: Bol do ke hamme private rakhna tha. Vo mera beta hai.  Muje koi adopted ka tag nhi dena hai. Vikas you do it tomorrow morning.
Vikas: Sana tu bhi bol
Sana: Jaise yeh bol raha hai vaise kar vikas.
    Sana walked away. This was the first night of their married life. She dreaded the many more nights that would come. This was their marriage. It was as lifeless has she felt right now. A marriage of convenience.
