Chapter Two - "The Visit"

The Next Day...

*Your POV*

Well, I hope I can talk to Hagumi again today. She just kinda dashed off yesterday.

Location: Hanasakigawa High School, Class 2-E

"Okay, class," our teacher said. "Test time!"

Hagumi sighed, and said, "Phew! At least this is science class!"

"Uhh, Hagumi?" I said. "This is math class."

"Whaaaaat?!" she exclaimed. "But... no way..."

The teacher passed out the tests. Hagumi tossed a pencil my way, and went out to reach it.

"Psst," she whispered. "The answer is 'C', right? Isaac Newton got hit on the head with a pear?"

"I thought it was an acorn," I whispered back. "Didn't he say that the sky was falling?"

"Oh, right, right!" Hagumi said. "You're so smart!"

We finished the rest of the test, and I noticed she had some difficulty doing it, constantly erasing and tapping on her desk.

The teacher looked at our tests.
"Hmm. Kitazawa?"

Hagumi quickly stood up.
"Y-yes, sensei?!"

"The pear hit Isaac Newton?"

"Umm, yeah. Is that wrong?" Hagumi asked.

"I can't say. This was just a practice test! The real test is tomorrow!"

The whole class made a collective sigh.
Why do teachers do that?!

As the bell rang, Hagumi approached me again.
"(Y/N)! Wanna come with me to PE today?"

She smiled at me again.
She's so cute.

"Sure," I told her as we headed right to another grueling PE class again.

After Class...

*Hagumi's POV*

PE class was soooo fun today! (Y/N) makes it awesome!

I noticed Kokoron waiting by the front gates again with Mii-kun.
Kokoron noticed us and ran toward us.

"Hagumi! You coming to my house today?" she asked.

"No, because I'm going to her house to help her study!" (Y/N) said.

"Huh?!" I shouted. "But I hate studying!"

"Hagumi." He looked at me with a serious face. "You helped my grade back at PE. It's my turn with your math."

"But..." I continued.

I don't want (Y/N) to come to my house.
If he saw what went on there...
He'd think I live with an awful group of people and never talk to me again.
I love my parents still, but to other people...

"My house is, uhh, under construction. We live in a tent in the woods! It's haunted by ghosts!"

"Ghosts? So cool!" Kokoron exclaimed. "Are they nice?"

"No! They're super spooky! Spookier than Haneoka's Seven Mysteries!" I continued.

"Eek!" Kokoron squealed. "Even cooler!"

Mii-kun, nearby, laughed.
"(Y/N), you don't actually believe that, right?"

"I don't. Hagumi, you're bad at lying," he told me.

"Aw. Okay... you can come and help me study."

"Have fun," Mii-kun and Hagumi!" Kokoron said, walking away.

(Y/N) and I went to my house, which is also my family's store where we sell awesome croquettes.
I held his arm again.

As we arrived, I breathed a sigh of relief as my parents weren't making a racket. We might be good.

In my living room, however, it was a mess.
Clothes and junk scattered everywhere.

What happened... here...?

Even a picture of my family and I was broken on the floor.

"Hagumi, was this why... you didn't want me to come?"

"N... no. This is a new house. We just moved in from the woods today," I said, beginning to tear up a bit.

Suddenly, (Y/N) hugged me.
"Hagumi. Hagu. You know that's not the truth."

"I'm sorry... please don't think I'm awful... or stop talking to me..."

(Y/N) laughed.
"Why would I do that? You know I'd never do that. You're very special to me, you know that?"

"I... I am?" I said.

"Yeah! You're cute, funny, smart..." he began to say. "Only a complete fool would stop talking to someone for something so... trivial."

He stopped, and suddenly brought his face close to mine.
Before I knew it, we began to kiss.

Kinda awkward in a place like this...
But this is my first kiss ever... with a person like him... it's a dream come true...

We stopped kissing before my parents can walk in.

*Your POV*

Hagumi's parents are not anything like what I expected... This is the reality...

The people you expect to be nice... aren't always like that.

I should know that better than anyone.
Hagu needs me. She needs to be happy.

And who else, but me?
Hagu's so precious, so I need to protect her.

"Come on, Hagu. We can spend time at Kokoro's house again."

"No, I can't," Hagu hesitated. "My parents will... They'll probably be back any time now..."

"Hagu..." I began. "Okay. If that's what you want."

"I'll spend tons of time with you tomorrow, okay? So much that you'll never forget!"

I smiled at her.
"Deal. See you, Hagu. Take my number just so you can call me."

I walked off, out of her house.

*Hagumi's POV*

Shortly after he left, my mom came inside.
She sat on the sofa and didn't say anything, and didn't move.
She drank something out of a bottle which I couldn't see because I was in the hallway.

Not long after that, my dad came home and began yelling at her.

I rushed off to my room, and texted (Y/N). I'm glad I got his number.

We texted each other for a while until I was happy, and I slept early that night, waiting for tomorrow for more fun with (Y/N).
