I blink open my eyes to bright, dazzling sunlight. And- and- the sound of rushing water. I can see. I'm dreaming. I've returned!
I stretch, looking around. Immediately I realize two things:
1) I am standing tail-lengths away from a waterfall, which I can just barely make out the edges of a cave through the rapidly falling water.
2) I am surrounded by hissing, glaring cats.
I stand up taller- I should not show weakness. I should appear strong. The hostile cats take a threatening step towards me, and I narrow my eyes.
"Halt!" A voice, somewhere behind the waterfall, yowls. The cats blink, and stand still, but don't take their eyes off me for even a heartbeat.
A moment later, a white she-cat with gleaming green eyes steps out from behind the waterfall, and slowly pads towards me. I want to cry out her name. But I am afraid she does not remember me.
"This cat is no enemy," she meows confidently, turning her head to glare at the cats. "Do you no longer remember this tom?"
The cats all share a confused look. A black tom steps forward, bowing his head.
"Half Moon-" he begins to say.
"Dark Shadow, you have no say in this." Another cat, a brown tabby, steps out from behind the waterfall. "Your healer has spoken. This cat is no enemy of ours."
The tom, Dark Shadow, ducks his head in embarrassment. The others silently bow their heads, in respect of the powerful tabby. Who is he?
Half Moon returns her gaze to me. Inside, I screech and yowl and thrash, wanting to dash to her side. Oh, how I've missed you, Half Moon!
"Who is this cat?" The tabby asks.
"Jay's Wing," Half Moon replies, lost in thought. "He led us here... don't you remember, Eagle Claw? He told us to come here."
The tom shakes his head. "I did not make the journey with you, remember?"
She blinks a few times. "Oh. Yes. Right." With a purr, she calmly comes over to me, and rests her muzzle on my head.
"H-Hello, Half Moon," I stammer, shocked at her open affection towards me.
"Come," Half Moon purrs, "We welcome you home."
