I miss you

It was winter and the days were short and cold. A man stood on a meadow near his house. A light breeze passed by and tousled his hair while he took in the scenery in front of him.

He looked up at the sky when he felt something cold touch his cheek. It had started snowing and thick fluffy snowflakes gently floated down upon him and the fields surrounding him. They felt like feathery soft touches on his skin. He lowered his gaze again and looked ahead. Soon, everything around him would be covered in snow like a pristine white duvet that glistened in the sun.

He had not realised he was crying until he felt the burning hot tears run down his frozen cheeks. He made no move to wipe them away.

His mind was with his love and her feathery soft touches. Her radiant smile could melt every frozen heart and her eyes had shone in such bright blue colours that it had always reminded him of a frozen lake, despite the warmth they had to them.

It had been winter when she passed away, when she left him alone in this bitter world. After all these years, he could still feel the same searing pain he had felt when he had seen his love take her last breath. His once blazing heart that had only beat for her now merely kept him alive.

The falling snow mixed with his hot tears as they dropped on to the ground. He stayed like this for a long time, watching the white flakes coat the meadows in front of him and the ice spread on the lake behind the fields.

And as the sun slowly set behind the horizon, he whispered in the wind: "I miss you".
