"Consider that as.......a deposit."
"Deposit?" She asked. "Three hundred thousand as a deposit. I haven't even started. Just so you know, I have pride too Mr Demilade and I stand on my word."
She was getting angry at his annoying attitude. She was poor and she knows it. She doesn't need him or anyone to tell her or for him to throw his money in her face.
Demilade stared at her, saying nothing. He liked her. She was feisty and challenging. She was not like the other ladies that threw themselves at his feet and do as he commanded. He just hoped it doesn't become a problem.
"I just want to make sure you know that I am not joking about what I said. And since you have it, you won't be able to back down now." He spoke calmly.
And that pissed her off. Did he take her for a liar? She was about to say something but he held up his hand and continues. "And I am not taking it back. It will cover up something. Won't it Miss Bamidele?"
She stared at him with obvious annoyance. But he was saying the truth. The money had a lot to cover, so she nodded. And she watched a smirk tug at the corner of his lips. And she wished she could slap it off his handsome face.
Then without wasting time, he added. "You will act as my girlfriend in any social outing and to my visitors. But most importantly to my mother. She must believe we are dating." He emphasized the last part with seriousness and warning laced in his tone.
She wanted to ask him why he was doing it. Why he needed her, why did he have to pay her or any other woman to make the deal? He was wealthy and powerful, he could get any woman he wanted and they would be glad to be his girlfriend. Why does he have to pay her? Or were there other motives for it? Something that relates personally to him or his wealth. She just hopes it is not the latter and because of that, she kept her questions to herself.
"But do I have to be here for thirty days?" She asked the one question that has been eating her up.
She doesn't like the idea of leaving her family. Most especially her little siblings to stay with a busy arrogant man.
"Yes. For my mother to believe I have a girlfriend. So yes, you must stay. I plan on telling her you are coming for a visit and it will last for thirty days. A month."
"Alright." She reluctantly agreed.
He probably has his reasons for all of it and it was none of her business to know why. He needed her just as much as she needed his money. There was no need to go back and forth with him.
He stood up and she followed suit.
"Let's go. We have a place to go." He said immediately he was on his feet.
"Where?"
"You'll know when we get there." He said rudely and he walked out of the house. She quietly followed him.
There was a black Benz car parked in front of the house with a man standing beside it pressing his phone. Lola assumed he was his second driver. The one that usually replace her father when he was on his day off.
