The billionaire spent the next twenty minutes anxiously checking everyone's rooms in case Dick had sleepily walked into the wrong room but no, he wasn't there either. Bruce ran back downstairs and checked the library. Not there either. Dining room, home cinema, kitchen, living room, all of them were a bust. Where would a five-year-old go if he was tired? That really wasn't the right question. Where would Dick Grayson go if he was tired? Somewhere he is comfortable. Where was he comfortable? Well, he liked high places. The attic? No that was locked and it was too dusty up there anyway. High places where he could get to. Dick was mischievous and he would've been left alone for quite a while. A high place Dick liked to be but probably shouldn't be without supervision. Trapeze!
Bruce raced to the nearest entrance to the Batcave and tapped his foot impatiently as he waited for the lift to go down. If Dick was hurt, he was dead. No doubt about it. When the elevator finally got to the Batcave, he dashed to the trapeze and looked around. He noticed a small blob on top of the podium that had a tuft of black and what looked to be the pajamas Bruce had bought his newest ward last week. He sighed in relief, glad that he didn't find the boy crumpled up on the floor or crying over an injury. Then he had the dilemma. Did he wake Dick up and lecture him or did he let the poor boy sleep and carry him to bed? Considering this was sort of his own fault, he decided on the latter. He climbed up the podium and picked up the acrobat who was fast asleep. Dick nuzzled up to Bruce's chest and let out a tiny yawn that just melted his guardian's heart. "Bwuce?" he mumbled, cracking his eye open upon the feeling of being moved.
"Go back to sleep chum, I'm just taking you to your room." Dick didn't need any more than that and went back to sleep with a small smile of content gracing his features.
3. Damian
"I don't wanna go to the gala! The people there are big meanies," Dick complained. He hated going to them. Everyone always made comments that he didn't really understand but by the tone they used he knew it wasn't a good thing. They were always looking down on him and not in a literal way half the time. Damian huffed at him. "It's only a few hours, you're making a big deal out of nothing," he replied.
"You don't get it! And they say bad words all the time, words Mama said people should never call me ever!" The older sighed and knelt down to him. They really didn't have time to deal with the protests but then again he should've gotten him ready earlier so they could have this fight and end it in time. It wasn't like he didn't understand where the child was coming from. People weren't exactly the nicest to him either. He just wished for Bruce to snatch him up and take him home. Bingo. "I know you want me to go but I don't like it there. Can I just stay here?" Dick asked.
"Unfortunately not though here's a compromise. If you come with me now, I shall hold you all night. No one talks to me and you react positively to being picked up," Damian offered. The acrobat grinned at him.
"You'd really hold me all night?" He nodded. "Thank you, Dami!"
"Yeah, yeah," he responded, playing off how cute that was. He plucked the boy off the ground and settled him comfortably in his arms. "Let's go before Father lectures me."
4. Tim
The Waynes were still fairly new to having Dick around and that naturally led to issues between them. One of these issues was how to get the boy to stop crying after a nightmare. Hugging him only worked to a small extent and most nights someone would just have to sit with him until he sobbed himself back to sleep. Not only was this hard to listen to but it was hard on the child. He'd complain of his eyes and throat being irritated not to mention the arguments that went on at bedtime. Tim was put in charge of looking after Dick one night so he thought up some ways he could comfort the youngest. He didn't have to wait long to try out what he'd come up with.
A few hours after Dick was put to bed, the all too familiar scream erupted from his room. Tim got up as quickly as he could and ran over to his room. The boy was tossing and turning as he usually did. His tiny fists gripped onto the bedsheets as he kicked away some invisible figure. Tim's heart wrenched as he walked over to the bed, beginning the long process of waking the orphan up. He shook his shoulders, called his name, told him everything would be fine. It was the same thing most nights so he had it well-rehearsed. Eventually, Dick's eyes snapped open and he sat bolt upright. He began sobbing harshly, hardly coming up for air. "It's gonna be okay, I'm right here," Tim told him as he held Dick. That didn't do much to ease off the tears. He decided to try one of the ways he'd thought up before. He gently rocked back and forth, remembering that rocking was a good technique to calm babies when they cried. There was some progress as Dick finally tried to take in deep breaths but it wasn't significant enough for Tim's liking. He moved to the next idea. "Can I pick you up, Dickie?" he asked softly. Dick nodded, holding on tighter as the older picked him up. Tim moved him so he was held bridal style and rocked from side to side. The reaction he got would've taken two hours to get usually. Dick went from loud sobs to soft crying. He let his body begin to relax and snuggled up to his brother. "Does this help?" Tim asked quietly. There was a small smile of triumph on his face as he asked. Damian was so going to be jealous that he figured out an efficient way to calm their little brother. Who's the favourite brother now? Dick nodded tiredly, letting his eyes slip closed.
5. Jason
"Dami is gonna be so mad," Dick giggled. He and Jason were booby-trapping Damian's room in the least damaging way so they didn't get in too much trouble. Jason was slowly introducing the younger to the wonderful world of pranks, deciding that he would be his prank protege. Dick was in charge of putting clingfilm at the bottom of the door into the bedroom and the door to the bathroom whilst Jason put clingfilm on the top part of both doors since he was taller. They'd also put clingfilm over the toilet, sink, and bathtub. "Yeah but it'll be worth it to see his face," Jason replied.
"Oh, we should put this around his bed!" he suggested. Jason's eyes sparkled with a new sense of mischievousness at the suggestion.
"Yes yes yes. I love it!" he replied, jumping over the clingfilm trap at the bottom of the door and grabbing the roll. He wrapped it around one of the posters a few times before doing the same thing around the rest of them to create a plastic box. "Nice call Dickie, you're learning," he commented. The acrobat grinned at him.
"Maybe I'll be a pranking sensei by the time I'm your age," Dick responded.
They heard the front door open and close downstairs followed by the muffle of conversation. "Get under the bed," Jason ordered. Dick nodded and slid under, resting his head so he could still peak out from beneath the sides of the blanket. His brother joined him and they tried to snuff out their excited laughs as they heard their eldest brother climb the stairs. They'd closed the door beforehand so the clingfilm wasn't as obvious. They really hoped that they could get him. Hopefully, he'd be distracted by something. The door opened and Damian walked through, his eyes firmly set on his phone. He completely missed the clingfilm and tripped over, falling flat on his face. "Todd!" Damian yelled. Jason laughed and quickly got out from under the bed.
"It wasn't just me this time," he stated. Dick got out too, cackling so hard his face was turning red. The older glared at them both and jumped to his feet.
"Just wait till I get my hands on you little-"
"Time to go!" Jason picked up his little brother, holding him bridal style, then ran out of the room. Their laughs echoed down the hall.
