After the hysterics were over, I was lead through a hall that lead to a giant living room, that was filled with over 25 people when I turned around the corner.
"There she is!" A familiar woman's voice yelled, to capture all the others attention. Which she did very successfully, as they all stopped their chatting and all turned their heads at me, of course making me embarrassed and flustered.
"Welcome, everyone!" Jeremiah's grandfather said, who's name he told me was Fane, "this is a celebration for my grandson's Other! Alice!" They all cheered raising their glasses high. What's an 'Other'? And why are all these people here? I thought.
I promised remember? And we will all tell you, together, what that means. After all, these people are now part your family. Jeremiah thought while looking at me, with a glint of admiration shown in his face.
How is it even possible that we are doing this? And how are they all my family? I am so astonished. I stared at him with a twinkle of awe in my eyes.
It is because of our Matching, which we will also explain.
"Well, would you look at that! I didn't think it was all but a legend," Fane started, interrupting mine and Jeremiah's mind conversation, which I would never thought I'd say in a million years, "they are listening and talking in each others minds, which was once said, whoever finds their Other, and hears each others thinking, they are the strongest among the Matched." Fane looked over at us with pride, as others stared in awe and jealousy, clearly to have wanted what I don't understand.
"But what about me?" Ranessa said, "she can read my mind too."
"Hmm, we will discover the answers to that later," Fane turned to her then to us, "for now we must celebrate the first Matching in over centuries!" I couldn't help but smile at all the cheers that erupted in the room, this is the first time I've felt safe in over 9 years. Wait. Tonight is my 18th birthday, crap! My grandma and I always stay up until midnight,, then sing happy birthday to me. I really need to get home. I turned towards Jeremiah, hoping he heard all of that.
It's okay, we told your grandmother that you are at a friend's house. He looked towards me with reassurance, and then all of a sudden turned pale, hold up, did you say tonight is your 18th birthday?
Yeah, why? Confused all of a sudden.
Uh, hold on. With that, he walked over towards Fane and started whispering in his ear. Then all the of the blood from Fane's face drained.
"Sorry to interrupt everyone," Fane yelled while standing on the middle of a table, silencing everyone from the conversation, "but we have some issues to take care of, the couple will be receding back to their individual," he said with a smirk, "bedrooms for tonight to rest, so please be on your way." Most nodded in understanding, others boo, and some smile, but in a matter of minutes the mansion of a living room was empty, besides me, Fane, Ranessa, and Jeremiah.
"Onto more pressing matters," Fane turned his serious face towards me, "is tonight really your 18th birthday?"
"Yeah, why would I lie about such a thing?" I responded with a confused face.
"Can you sit down for a moment with us Alice, my dear?" Not really asking, but commanding.
"Yeah," my face showing confusion still, "but I still don't know any of the Matching, and Other situation, so can you please explain that to me?"
