As I step outside I realize that it's the perfect weather for running. So it might be good weather for training? I don't know. But what I do know is that I'm curious about what Jeremiah was busy with earlier. Come on Alice, ever heard the saying, 'Curiosity killed the cat'? I thought to myself. I close my eyes briefly, loving the scent of pine trees that the slight breeze was carrying over.
"Wow, you actually did find me. I was worried there for a second, so I came to find you." Ranessa said, coming into my line of vision. Which was a shame because now I can't see the scenery of pine trees. There wasn't any snow, which was surprising because it's Aspen, and we were in the mountains. I didn't want to hear Ranessa's thoughts so I decided to try and block her out, hoping that it would work.
I tease her, "Awe, you were worried about me." Ranessa widened her eyes and scoffed.
"As if." Liar.
"Am not!" Oops, did I say that out loud?
"There you guys are!" Fane appeared from behind Ranessa and put his hands in the air exasperatingly. "Let's get to training."
Ranessa groaned as we follow Fane into the woods. "Where are we going?" I ask, almost tripping over a root.
"Wow, for a Fae you are really clumsy. To answer your question; it's a secret." Fane answered from in front of us.
I raise a brow and turn over to Ranessa and poke her. She gave me an irritated look, and said, "What?"
"Why the woods?" I question her, trying to keep up with Fane, "And where's Jeremiah?"
Ranessa gave me a look, "Man, you sure ask a lot of questions. First, the woods, fairies?" She exaggerated the fairies part.
"Oh." I'm really stupid, duh, Fae are probably stronger in the woods. "Second?" I referred to her earlier sentence.
Ranessa raised her pierced brow. Wow, I wonder if that hurt, she looks good. "Aren't you calling him Jeremy now? And he's probably taking his time getting here."
I stop. Man, I need to get used to calling him that. I opened my mouth, but Fane interrupted me.
"Okay, no more of this. This is too slow. We need to go Rapid, otherwise it's going to take about three hours if it takes this long." Fane groans and gives Ranessa a knowing look.
"She might not be able to get the hang of it, not to mention the fact that she might get hurt. She wasn't grown up around this as much as we have." Ranessa looked adamant. Fane gave her a hard look and Ranessa sighed.
"Fine. But this is not a good idea."
With a nod of his head he turned towards me, and I can't help but notice a gleam in his eyes. I gulped visibly. But I put on a brave front, "Rapid?"
Fane smiled brightly, "Yes, it's the speed that Fae usually go at to get places."
"Is it faster than flying?" I ask, even though this is completely off topic.
Fane scoffed, "Definitely not. Fae's wings are as fast as the speed of light. But with flying, we don't do it as often as Rapid. Rapid is our way of transportation, just like cars for humans. But Rapid is faster."
