We'd been back at school now for just under a week, we started Tuesday. I expected things to flow a bit faster than last year, but nevertheless the same. And yet here I was, walking through a crowded house party on a Saturday night with my best friend Carly. Our first one ever to be exact, we had only ever drunk together or with family, we'd never been to an actual party before.

We'd never been invited to something like that, a couple of years ago it used to really bother me. I just wanted to do normal teenage things, like hook up with guys or go to crazy parties. But I soon grew out of that phase, Carly not so much.

Her reaction to being invited was, enthusiastic. Of course I went with her, I didn't want to leave her alone at a strangers house - well a person whom we have walked past in the school's corridors for over six years but never actually spoken to - their house.

She was so excited. I hoped once I got there I'd also feel a rush of adrenaline, something anyway, and yet I was as bored as ever - underwhelmed even. "This is strange" I told her as she pulled my hand through the crowded living room. The strong stench of booze and weed hit me, which would be the first things you'd expect to smell at a British secondary college party.

Although the person who owed the house, or more specifically his parents' home, was in sixth form like me and Carly were. Most of the people there were from the college near our school. Luckily I recognised most of them. Our town was small, so I kind of just learnt who people were from seeing them around.

Carly groaned from in front of me, determined to make her way through the sea of drunk teenagers. "Will you just lighten up? We never get invited to things like this, so i'm just making the most of it. You should too" she responded, coming to a quick stop. She picked up a couple drinks from a table in front of us. She handed me a beer, whilst she picked up a can of cider. "We might not get invited again, okay?" she shot me a look of desperation.

And then I gave in, feeling incredibly guilty for being stubborn, selfish. She really wanted to have a good time and I shouldn't have been the one to stop that. Even if I was about to have a miserable night. "I know, I'm sorry" I said, offering an apologetic smile. "You should mingle or something, I don't know" I said, shrugging my shoulders uncomfortably.

Her painted lips pulled into a grin, "thank you. Text me if you need me, we're leaving together obviously" she leant forward, planting a quick kiss on my cheek before scurrying away into the busy kitchen. I rolled my eyes smiling, rubbing away the lipstick stain she had left on my cheek with my hand and turning away.

My eyes locked onto the bottle opener beside me, I took hold of it and briefly opened the bottle in my hand. Taking a longing gulp of the drink, I made my way through the strangely lit room. There were distracting lights shining on the walls around me, creating a dismal red shade within the entire living room, and house.

I strolled, surprised by the struggle I was experiencing despite the wide space of the lounge. People were huddled, grinding against each other for no reason other than to express their drunk and horny needs. I didn't see the reasoning for it, but whatever floated their boats, I supposed.

As I made my way through, two guys distanced in the corner of the room caught my attention. They were sat on a leather sofa, which was spacious to say the least, and yet nobody else joined them. A blunt could be seen passed between the two of them, they seemed to be engrossed in some sort of conversation. I must admit I found myself glaring at them little too long. One boy had the bluest of eyes, piercing my vision from even this distance. Whilst the other had been equally as enticing, his sharp jawline lined with stubble was prominent as he inhaled the smoke around him. I'd definitely seen them before, I remembered noticing them years ago. They were a lot more attractive now.
