The speed of his recovery was second to none as he became well again immediately the car left the compound

We were just fine afterwards. With few odd stares, whistling and licking lips each time I passed. Nothing I couldn't handle, I thought

Calls came in regularly, each call seeking to clarify his health. I was only allowed to tell them he was feeling better after the second day. My story had to match up with his,in his words after all

The night before the slated day for their arrival is the most unforgettable day in my life.

Dinner had been eaten and the generator, switched off. Thereafter, we took our lamps and bade each other good night.

Not long after,as I was just getting prepared to sleep after sorting out the clothes on my bed,my door creaked and opened revealing Nonso at the other end. Fright took over as I was sure I had locked the door.

"I just came to see if you were alright and if you closed your window since rain is about to fall", he said

"Ehrmm..Thanks. How did you open the door though?"

"Don't worry about that. Sleep tight", he replied, shutting the door after

I sighed as I ran towards the door, locking and checking again
I probably didn't remember to lock it earlier, I thought as I went back to bed.

*******
The rumble of the thunder woke me again later as I closed my eyes tightly and hugged the pillow tightly.

But something else seemed amiss. The creaking of the door knob and the jingle of keys got me startled.

Before I could process what could be going on,the door got opened and Nonso came in,locking the door behind him

     " You're still awake?",he whispered, seeming surprised

I shook in fear, trying to get up from the bed before another thunder threatened to throw the heavens open. I screamed and shook, digging my fingers into the pillow.

"Shhh", he whispered again, holding his finger across his lips.

And gradually, he approached my bed,and made effort to pull me into his embrace

"I'm fine, I said, shuffling away from his embrace and clutching the pillow even more tightly One thing was certain, I was uncomfortable around him.

"It's really obvious. Common, you're not a child anymore. You know, there is a way people overcome fear and cold in a season like this",he said, moving closer to me

" I don't know what you are talking about. I'm fine Nonso, please leave now",I replied, this time, moving to tgr edge of the bed

"Common Martha,I promise you are going to enjoy this",he replied, removing the pillow and rubbing my arm.

    " Leave me"

He trapped me with his hands ignoring my protests

     "I'll be quick"

"PLEASE!,HELP!,STOP!", I screamed as loud as my voice could go in hopes of alerting the gate keeper

The earth seemed to be against me that night as the rain began, pouring in torrents, washing my cries and screams.

It was particularly hard writing this chapter and I still think it's not good enough. Whatever it is,I can't wait to get this book done with and submit for editing.
