Chapter 6

I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I am useless. I... I am useless.

"Clarissa!" My mother yells at me

I sigh. I hate that name. It stings worse than getting lemon juice in a papercut. "Yes, mother?" I walk over to where she is. I find her nearly passed out drunk.

"I need you to do the dishes you worthless piece of trash!"

"Yes, mother. I'll get started on that now" I walk into the kitchen and get the hot water running. My stomach growling viciously because I haven't been fed in days. I swiftly get the dishes done and walk back over to my now passed out drunk mother. My father is in his room guzzling down beers and eating nachos while watching a dumb show.

"CLARISSA!" My father, now demanding me to do some other unearthly chore on an empty stomach. But who cares? I care. I care so much and no one notices. I do care. I care about it all. I care about every little thing. But no one else does, especially when it comes to me.

Hours have passed by and I finally finish all the chores I was demanded to do. It's now like three in the afternoon. I'm exhausted and I head to bed. As soon as my head makes the slightest contact with my pillow, I start to drift off until I hear a chiming sound. I look confused at my phone when I hear dinging. No one calls me, who could it be? I picked up... "H-Hello?"

"Carson? Are you okay? Is everything alright? Are your parents treating you well?" Jack hurriedly asks.

"Oh um..." I panic thinking if I told Jack the truth my parents will find out and they'll really beat me. "Yeah. Yeah. Everything is great. I miss you guys but my parents are treating me great now!" I said that in the best happy voice I could do at the time, trying to disguise my sadness. It's been almost a month... I missed his voice so much.

"Really? I didn't think that your parents could possibly be well... nice..." Jack's voice was so uncertain and definitely concerned. I hated lying to him. I just couldn't say anything because I was scared my parents would hear me.

"Oh yeah, this past week has been pretty good. I miss you guys. Hopefully, I can convince my parents to let me come see you again. Anyways I have to go. My parents are calling me in for breakfast. I'll try to talk to you later. Bye" I quickly hung up the phone, I just couldn't hear his voice again. As much as I missed it, it would hurt too much. Why is the ringing still in my ears? Oh, I'm being called again. "Hello?"

"Carson."

"Jack, why are you calling me I have to go to breakfast."

"Carson." He sighed. "Why are you lying to me?"

"What? I'm not lying."

"Carson, it's three in the afternoon. There's no way you'd be having breakfast now."

"What no it's just because we all woke up late. Now I have to go bye."I'm a liar. I get ready to walk into the kitchen to start making breakfast for my parents. If I ate anything, I'd be punished.
