The Tale of Athena's Birth

Athena was the favorite child of Zeus,

The goddess of wisdom and justice,

Of crafts and skills.

She exhibited her courage and wisdom many a time,

But the most remarkable story about her

Is the tale of Athena's birth.

Metis was the first wife of Zeus,

And dangerous to Zeus, her child could be.

If a boy was born to Metis,

 He might destroy his father,

So Zeus tried his best

To prevent Athena's birth.

Zeus made a plan to swallow up his wife,

As they played a game of shape changing.

Once she changed into a fly,

She was quickly swallowed.

And thus Zeus believed

That he had prevented Athena's birth.

Metis, in Zeus's head,

Was awaiting her coming child.

She weaved a robe, and pounded a helmet,

For her expected babe.

And Zeus could do nothing

To stop Athena's birth.

Zeus was having terrible headaches one day,

So his son, Hephaestus, was called

To split open his father's head.

And out sprang Athena, full-grown

With her bright, gray eyes flashing.

It was finally time for Athena's birth.

Athena was birthed of her father's head,

A fate never heard of 'til then

And never heard of again.

So now you have heard that strange tale:

The tale of Athena's birth.

A/N: See,I can write poetry too! And Athena, Zeus, and Metis are far from belonging to me!
