Chapter 9: Your second attempt

Subaru and I left the library and walked down the hall.

Subaru: "I can't believe this happening again."
Y/N: "Again? What do you mean by again?"
Subaru: "Well you see, every time a specific event restarts it means I've died."
Y/N: "What? How?"
Subaru: "I don't know. But what I do know is that every time I die I return to-AGH!"

I suddenly see a familiar purple mist surround the both of us. One I know all too well.

Y/N: "Subaru!?"

Suddenly, I noticed a purple hand clutch Subaru's chest before retreating as quickly as it came.

Y/N: "Subaru are you ok?"
Subaru: "Yeah I'm fine."
Y/N: "I think I understand now."
Subaru: "You do?"
Y/N: "Yes. Subaru you can return to a specific point in time by well...y'know. I can't say it or I'll get consumed too."
Subaru: "Did you see the purple mist just now? "
Y/N: "Yes. But-"
Subaru: "YEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSS!!!"
Y/N "huh?"
Subaru: "Finally someone understands my pain!"
Y/N: "Well I'm glad I'm not the only one either but
Subaru if you have the ability you say you do then that means for today to have restarted and for me to notice means that we both must've died last night."
Subaru: "Which means..."
Y/N: "I also have the ability to return by de-AHH!"

Oh right...I forgot. You're still there aren't you?

Subaru: "Y/N!"

I held my chest and waited for it all to be over before taking again.

Y/N: "Well I'm sure you know what I was about to say."
Subaru: "Yeah yeah I got it. Are you ok?"
Y/N: "Oh please, I'm used to it by now."
Subaru: "geez I'm sorry."
Y/N: "it's fine, today we've gotta focus on trying not to get killed."
Subaru: "Right, we'll just have to repeat the events of yesterday and hopefully we'll be able to catch our cause of death."
Y/N: "That's the plan."
Subaru: "Alright, at breakfast I'll ask to work here again."
Y/N: "Alright."

With that, we had already arrived at the courtyard to see Emilia walking around seemingly in distress. Subaru and I gave her a wave.

Emilia: "Oh you two are together! Perfect! Subaru what happened to you? Rem and Ram were concerned! Are you ok?"
Subaru: "Right as rain!"

I gave him a glare.

Emilia: "How strange...Y/N said the exact same thing when I asked her."

She placed her finger to her chin with a quizzical look on her face. Her cheeks still tinted with a rose hue of pink. I couldn't help but take in her beauty when eventually her and Subaru noticed.

Subaru: "Y/N?"
Emilia: "Why're you staring? Oh goodness! Is there something on my face?!"

I finally snapped out of my daze but couldn't help but voice my feelings.

Y/N: "Of course there's something on your face."
Emilia: "Huh?"
Y/N: "Your adorable eyes, nose, ears and mouth."
Subaru: "Smooth move~"
Emilia: "E-Eh?"
Y/N: "oh um, I mean...I'm glad you're ok."
Subaru: "Aw c'mon!"
Emilia: "Well of course I'm ok. After all, you both had a hand in protecting me but anyway enough about that. How are you're injuries?"
Y/N: "I told you not to trouble yourself over it."
Subaru: "Don't worry Y/N I'll tell her for you!"
Y/N: "No Wait-"
Subaru: "We're feeling great! Let's see...I'm a little low on blood and I can tell Y/N's mana has been drained. The shock of us both waking up has sapped our strength and I think Y/N can relate to this but I feel like my mind has been beaten to death by a bat buuuut other than that we're fantastic!"
Y/N: "10/10 Subaru. How reassuring...."
Emilia: "I see...well that's great- Hang on! Wouldn't that mean you're both hurt all over!"
