Barely Making It Through

Chapter 1

Starting school in a completely new state was going to be a test of its own. I didn't realize what that would entail until I was arriving. Dad was driving me to school today. I was far too nervous to drive on my own.

Were people going to like me? Am I even pretty enough? What if I get bullied? What if I get played?

Thoughts come and go as we pull into a spot.

"Have a good day Val. I love you!" Dad calls as I hop out. He always liked to drop me off on my first day of school, especially now in a new place

" Bye dad." I say back, turning my body to the school and shutting the door behind me. I was always tired of him doing this but I let him anyway. It would be my last year so what did it matter?

The anxiety immediately increases and my body starts to feel as if it's made of jello; weak and unmanageable.

I was a fit girl; small frame with long healthy hair and proportional features. I enjoyed working out and keeping my body fit, as well as the healthier eating. But I still enjoyed the junk food as well, just limited.
As I walk towards the door, lost in my thoughts, I bump into another body.
My eyes scan the thing in front of me; a boy who seemed just as nervous as me.

" Sorry.. I wasn't paying attention. " He immediately apologizes. He had dyed platinum hair and icy blue eyes.

" It's okay..I'm uh..new here. I'm Valerie.. I'm not really sure where to go.."

" I'm Clayton. Do you have a schedule? I can show you around. " The boy offers.

I flip through the pages of a small binder and pull my schedule out. " Here it is."

I hand it to him and wait for his response.
"We have most classes together."

As we go inside, a girl pushes through us," Out of my way!"

"Who's that?" I ask him," and why is she like that?"

" That's Amber Lee Summers. She's kind of the top bitch here. She's the captain of the cheer squad- who is going to nationals this year for the third time in a row because of her. But don't let her scare you. I heard she lost her virginity and then slept with ten other guys. But it's only a rumor."

We walk into our first class and sit down. We were in the back left corner. I pull my notebook out and look back up to talk to Clayton, when a different guy comes in. He was the hottest one I've seen so far- Tall, dark hair, bright blue eyes and clearly worked out because his muscles were much more defined than what I've seen.

" And who is that?"

" That's Michael Richardson. He's Amber's ex. But he's trouble so I'd stay clear of him."

I guess I was staring because the boy was sitting in front of me when he commented,
"Take a picture, it'll last longer!"

I roll my eyes and look back at Clayton, who clearly hadn't looked away from me.

" Do you wanna hang out after school?"

" Uh...sure. That'd be cool."

The teacher walks in," Good morning class. I hope your break was great.. it seems we have a new member today. Would you care to introduce yourself, miss?"

I stand slowly, looking at the people in the room.
" Hi... I'm Valerie Thompson, I just moved from Charlotte, North Carolina. "

" Welcome Valerie. I hope you like this school."
The teacher adds, then starts class.

It was an advanced english class for seniors.
We go through our notes section and questions, then are dismissed by the bell. I have Sociology next, which Clay had too.
We walk over, but I wasn't sitting next to Clay in class; Michael offered the seat next to him and I really wanted to take the opportunity.
I kinda felt bad for leaving Clayton but some other girl found her way to him. I think I heard him say Clover.

" Do you want to hangout sometime?" Michael asks as the teacher takes roll call.

" Sure."
But Clayton took that the wong way.

"Let's hang out later." He says to the girl.

"Really? Okay!" She giggles.

" Actually Michael let's hang out today. " I say back.

Clay and I were looking each other in the eye at this point, both being vindictive and speaking in spite of the other.
His eyes roll and I face the front again.. Originally the plan was for another day; I wasn't blowing him off. But the he decided to get all jealous and make plans for today, so two could play at this game.

Hey guys! After a long break I am finally back to writing! recreated_Lisa  and I are writing a series. This book is one we wrote when we first started writing together. We are editing it as we go.
