Chapter Twenty-Two

Start from the beginning

He presses his lips to my forehead.

I look up, confused. "You're awake?"

His brown eyes twinkle with amusement.

"For how long?" I ask, a little disappointed he didn't wake me up too.

"A while. I like watching you sleep." He admits, hugging me closer. I bury my head in the crook of his neck to hide my insane blush. That's so sweet of him, but I can't help but wonder why he likes watching me sleep. I decide not to ask him, not wanting to ruin the moment. Besides, I kind of like the idea of him watching me sleep, it makes me feel protected.

Thoughts of what Amy told me yesterday jumble in my mind, making me smile happily. It's nice to know I'm the first girl Ashton has taken an interest in. It makes me feel special. He's the first guy I've ever taken an interest in, obviously. He was my first kiss, too. I wonder if I was his, but I suppose not. He must have at least kissed another girl before. But that thought makes me frown.

"What are you thinking about, angel?" Ashton murmurs curiously into my hair, nuzzling his face on the top of my head.

"Nothing." I say quickly, blushing furiously again.

He chuckles. "I can tell when you lie, Rosy. You're heartbeat picks up." He tells me matter-of-factly. "What were you thinking about?" He asks me again.

"Just how you... were my first kiss and I was just wondering... you know?" I say, rolling my wrist absentmindedly, looking up at his amused face before looking away again with a bright red face.

He chuckles, pulling me impossibly closer and resting his chin on top of my head. "You weren't mine...but you're the only one I've cared about." He tells me.

No matter how hard I try, I can't help that warm feeling bubbling in my chest as I wait for Ashton to continue talking.

"I never had much time for girls." He shrugs when he sees I'm not going to say a thing until he does. "I was busy learning Alpha duties, and then I had to become Alpha at a younger age than usual and I was just... too busy to really get in a relationship." He explains, shrugging lightly.

I never thought about it that way. Ashton did have to grow up quickly when his Dad and sister were killed by the rogues. He has to lead an entire pack and keep everyone in line. It must have been hard on him not to be able to do what other teenagers were doing.

I look at him, smiling like crazy.

He laughs quietly, before dipping his head and pressing his lips against mine. The reaction is immediate, like always. Those sparks that slam into me make my eyes shut in pure bliss. My body arches into Ashton's as my arms wind around his neck, fingers tangling in his hair.

A smile tugs at my lips, which makes Ashton smile too.

Pulling back I bury my head in the crook of his neck again, leaving my arms around his neck. "The bonfire's tonight." I say casually.

He shivers as my breath hits his bare skin. "Yeah."

I can hear the excitement in his voice. "Can I join your pack tonight?" I ask uncertainly, looking up at him with my pleading blue eyes.

He stares at me, surprised, and for a moment I worry he will say no, but when his dazzling grin appears I know tonight is the night.

Later that day, around five at night, Amy was helping me get ready. I've had a shower already, and my hair is almost dry.

Amy chose something for me to wear. Nothing too fancy, nothing too causal. I'm in denim coloured dress, though it's not made of denim. It is layered from my waist down. Above my waist it is simply white with little cropped sleeves.
